Two tier Keir reverses Brexit on 12:07 - May 21 by controversial_jack | You can't really have both at the same time |
I'm beginning to think you simply don't understand stuff. If companies are under financial pressure they may look to reduce staff costs. They can make people redundant, this leads to an increase unemployment, or issue an recruitment ban, this will reduce vacancies or they may do both. Increasing employment costs across the economy will increase unemployment and reduce vacancies. Companies may opt to also increase prices to cover costs and contribute to inflation or they may simple absorb the additional costs.

Two tier Keir reverses Brexit on 21:23 - May 20 by SullutaCreturned | Hold up there shakey, I voted leave, I've had a pop at "remoaners" but see my posts above... Some people live in the past, constantly moaning about going backwards, some despise the future and the ineviatbel change. Maybe I'm just odd because although I voted leave we have to react to the world around us. For me Brexit was right at the time and here we are today, we have opportuniies that we wouldn't have without brexit. New trade deals with a few countries, a new deal coming with the EU and with Trump, Putin and China being as they are, a new security deal with Europe is an absolute must. Love it or loarhe it we have these opportunities because of brexit...and Trump! We may not get everything we want and the tories will always call any Labour deal a sell out but only an idiot would not try to do something in the current circumstances. And apparently Labour ARe talking about the WFA again. This is where Builthy is 100% right, Starmer has made some daft moves but only a proper fool would have thought they could fix the country qyuckly. It's a 2 term job but they have to do enough in the first term to have a chance at a second, the jury is still out. |

Good to see you changing your mind on Brexit though. |

No, because of Trump being POTUS and how he's behaving which may destroy NATO. Because he's sidled up to Putin. Come on, it's simple, really it is. Brexit didn't destroy NATO. Comprende S'il vous plait.

Nope, wrong again, we haven't different deals with other countries than we could have had inside the EU. I didn't change my mind on Brexit it's just the world has changed significantly since 2016 and only a fool stands still and does nothing. I'm still not in favour of EU membership. The Eu has a lot of trouble internally, far right politics rising, Germany and France looking less stable than they have been for a long while. What I'm all in favour of is saying to Trump, if you're not happy with NATo just stop the bully boy antics and leave, any trade tarffs to be met with FULL reciprocity by all of Europe and take US tropps out of here too. Then tell Denmark and Canada they are safe in the Euro defence agreement and move (lets call it EDA) EDA troops to those places for "training" purposes. open a largen new EDA training base in Greenland. trump only understands force as do so many bullies. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I voted leave at the time as well, but I never expected it to take 6/7yrs to manifest itself, so many things had changed by then it was ridiculous to implement it after that time had past, Cameron knew that and run away like the coward he is. How posters on here can support this government is baffling

I'm all for minimum wage, however inflation and the cost of living in the UK is now beyond. So you wonder if minimum wage worker's are better off. Probably not .If you have ever run a small business with a staff, knowing you will have to pay extra NI where do you find this from? Passing it on to the client/customer.

It's not only the minimum wage and NI for employers, you have to maintain differentials between employees. If someone is doing a basic level pay job and gets an increase that has a knock on up through the pay scales, basically all the employees get a pay increase.

Try to keep up, this time it's minimum wage, employers NI and business rates all at the same time with a tightening of employee rights around the corner. That's why unemployment is up and vacancies are down.

But it was also a vote of confidence in Cameron. Having lost his position was untenable shirley .. ? He could not lead the country in the greatest act of self harm in living memory. There was no plan, Johnson just made things up. The real villain was Jezza, said he was Remain but was Leave if you judge his actions. North London luvvy and pretty clueless on getting the Labour vote out. Farage did it.

The minimum wage goes up every year. NI has barely kicked it., so it's not that. However, wages are continuing to rise quicker than inflation and the economy is growing quicker than expected. It's too early to tell yet. though. If everything was going in the right direction we would have utopia, but economics is not like that, it's a fine balance.

No it wasn't a vote of confidence and Cameron stated openly that he'd stay on whatever the result, he expected to remain clearly because all the polls said that (them darn polls eh Kilky) then he slunk away like a coward in the night. If he'd stayed it may have been better but vertainly bette than what Bojo gave us.

A valid point in terms of outcomes. But anyone in his position would have walked. You cant progress actions that you know damages your own people.

Here's a thought, what if the minimum wage rose to a decent level and the government stopped paying Universal credit to millions of people, then they could maybe lower the NI rate, maybe cut business taxes? Maybe if wages were higher and benefits weren't so freely available then people would want to work? But when benefits make you better off than working a lot of people make it a lifestyle choice while others get stuck on the minimum wage trap of needing benefits. It comes back to another post I made, why do governments pay subsidies to big corporations and then universal credit to top up the (shitty) minimum wage, we are being fleeced at both ends with the money (profits that should be wages) ending up in rich peoples bank accounts.

If the minimum wage went up [I'm not against it] it would need to be paid by employers/businesses who would need to increase prices, therefore fueling inflation. Then there is rebalancing differentials in the workplace and employees the government pay like the NHS and other government employees.

But if corporation tax and business rates were dropped to offset the wage increase it might work? Then the government saves money on universal credit which will cost the Uk roughly 90 billion this year. If it worked then no price increases (thoought they are increasing rapidly anyway) no rise in inflation, lower tqxes, more money spent in the economy so that is boosted...

Well yes. The UK has hacked off Putin as a major supporter of Ukraine. The long range missiles very much upset Putin. So Putin has motive to dislodge Starmer. (Putin had more influence with the Tory money men, some people might say). So using Ukraine assets to get at Starmer, suits one man above most others. Putin. Equally it could all be bollox , or its a persinal matter for the PM. Not really sure who gains through that though ā¦.?
