His stats are skewed somewhat by making himself available for all the tough games, despite an injury situation where he could, if he wasn’t such a good character, given them a miss here and there.

I like Steve Cook, but looking at it from another point of view If he's having injections to get through a pain barrier and play. It might also be because he needs to play x number of games to trigger a contract extension rather than just being a "good character" Still doesn't explain the mental subtext on the official site though. I'm trying to think how I'd feel if the boss did an all staff email, saying words to the effect that he is reluctantly letting Nick stay for another year, because he found his way into the office the minimum amount of times.

If you'd done Steve Cook's mark at that Preston game it would probably have been a borderline A and a disaster that he's injured. Like Nardi would have been POTY if you'd done it end of November. So, perhaps, fair point. We go through all of this on the pod...

How can writing like this be so utterly hilarious, utterly perceptive and utterly true all at once? Thank you very much.

Even by our standards, not even making it through the goalkeepers without Simmo telling a story about Harold Shipman is remarkable.

I normally wouldn't give this thought much credit as this is Steve Cook we are talking about - surely there would be no shortage of mid table Championship clubs willing to give him a decent contract for another year, so I don't find it credible that he would be risking the rest of his career on an injury just to trigger the deal. I know it's probably a decent deal, but he would have been on far bigger ones at Forest etc so hardly that exciting for him to risk the entire pot? Then again, I read our press release, and it would definitely appear someone feels stitched up by something. I prefer to believe it is the previous agreement rather than the above.

We've given bigger|longer contracts to worse people in the past, so I'm not losing too much sleep over it. I'm guessing its the CEO distancing himself from doing the opposite of the business model of signing young prospects with re-sale value

Ravel, Joel Lynch, Matt Lowton, Harry Arter, Jamie Ward, Ben Pringle and a load of other English players. That’ll be some Tuesday club. Edit- wrong thread. [Post edited 21 May 11:19]
