Saints Managerial Appointments That the Fans Have Welcomed 17:09 - May 24 with 1402 views | SaintNick | I have just looked through the list of modern managers at Saints starting with Lawrie McMenemy in 1973, I reckon that in the 30 odd managers that we have had in that time the ones that the fans have thought were good appointments as they were experienced top managers when they arrived were Graeme Souness Glenn Hoddle George Burley Alan Pardew Ronald Koeman Thats five managers out of about 30 permanent ones, anyone think that there are anymore

Saints Managerial Appointments That the Fans Have Welcomed on 18:21 - May 24 with 1302 views | Southamptonfan | The managers appointed, arrived under different contexts and different times. Our aim this season is promotion. So why haven't we appointed an experienced manager, that knows how to get promoted? Or at least, a manager that knows the Championship or the English leagues. We have appointed a very young manager in footballing terms, who hasn't proven anything apart from one average season with Lens and an okish time with Reims in a different country in a different league. It's a huge risk. It is similar to the NJ appointment, another experiment that wasn't thought through, when he was thrown into a fierce relegation battle that he had never experienced before. Too inexperienced, too naive. We all knew it wouldn't work. We needed an experienced strong manager. Let's say Liverpool, Man City or Arsenal appointed a manager who has just finished 8th in the Spanish league and never won anything. Would he be good enough for them? To me this stinks of a cheap yes man who has got his dream move. A manager who is used to having his best players sold. Someone who accepts that he will lose all of his best players and has to make do. Hardly exciting to me. I sincerely hope I am wrong. I will go with the "he's a young manager full of new ideas, full of energy" attitude. But I do think this could go horribly wrong. [Post edited 24 May 18:27]

Nail on head Southamptonfan. Another cheap as chips Sports Republic appointment to add to their ever increasing list of managerial failures. Honestly, when the going gets tough what self respecting professional footballer is going to take a blind bit of notice of a thirty something who has never managed in Britain or played football at any professional level. Saints fans gullibility and acceptance of second best never ceases to amaze me and that’s probably why we have only won a single major trophy since 1885.

That game (it was Boro, remember it well) cost us the points that sent us down. I'm sure we were still 2 up in the 88th minute or something then drew 2 - 2

Didn'twe break in the last minuet at 2-1 and Peter Crouch had a shot rather than taking the ball to the corner flag and they then went straight up our end and scored the equaliser?

It was against Everton, as said before Boro scored two very late goals, I remember because I was in a pub and with it being 2-0 so late I was already composing a micky taking text for some mates in Middlesbrough when I saw they'd pulled one back I waited. Just as well I did
