Statistically our best striker in the last 40 years? 22:46 - May 25 with 3535 viewsoldmeadoniansR

Who is it?
Got to be over 20 goals.
My guess is Clive Allen. My left field is John Spencer.

No idea. I would have thought Charlie Austin would have been in with a shout, first time around, but his 'second coming' would have pushed his stats out.

John Spencer? Best finisher I saw, even if he lost interest by the end of his short stay. Andy Thomson another possibility.

it's funny, isn't it? For years, in fact decades, we developed or brought in (often for little money - Les cost us £15,000 from Hayes if memory serves) a fantastic succession of gifted goalscoring strikers, while in recent years our forward line has been varying shades of dismal. It's why I think, a big part of our plug-circling has been as much down to (i) the abject uselessness of our 'development' coaches and (ii) our dismal scouting, as our benign but bungling owners. Either that, or some kind of perverse determination not to solve our own problems must behind behind it, if not that gypsy's curse!

To put that in statistical context, no fewer than SIXTEEN players in the Champ last season managed 12+ goals, with another 12 hitting double figures. That's an awful lot of players and clubs, many with similar and possibly lesser budgets to ours, who've managed to field at least one competent forward. Michael Frey is 36th in that list, people, with his paltry 8 goals, and yet there are still some here who seem to tout him as if he were John Hartson or tell us we can expect no better with our finances!

Arguably, and you know who you are, those supporters part of the problem. Some of us aspire higher, which is the main role of fans, by the way. We're enthusiasts, not accountants. In the words of The Waterboys, dream harder!

Maybe the most goals scored but I think the OP is probably referring to best goals per game ratio.

Yep, Gallen it is.

Les is way ahead on goals per game though.

Was thinking goals per game and should have said last 50 years. 20 minimum

20 goals per game is a pretty tall order unless there's a QPR basketball team whose existence has evaded me.

Goals per game over the last 50 years must be Clive Allen, 72 goals in 146 appearances.

Not as good a ratio as he has for Tottenham & Bordeaux though!
