Quarshie or Quasie 19:49 - May 28 with 2116 viewsGRIM

Looks like we're signing a big young fast central German defender named Joshua Quarshie.
I panicked when I heard this I thought were were bringing back a 46 year old Nigel Quasie.
Who remembers him he'd been relegated more times than Aaron Ramsdale.

Oh, a 20 year old with potential, at a cheap price?

He’ll be off to Turkey on loan quicker than you can say “New Teeth Booked In For Mr. Ankersen.”

He'll probably replace the young fast talented German ctr back that we already have that's never used. (ABK).

Sounds like he might be a replacement for Harley Emsden-James.

Personally im bored of signing ones for the future. The future never comes. Over the last few years we have signed 11 centre backs that are young and for the future - Salisu, Dynel Simeu, Nico Lawrence, Bel a kotcha, Derrick Abu, Zach Awe , Ronnie Edwards , Nathan Wood, Sam Tabares and Joachim Kayi Sanda. Absolutely pointless.

Ive not included Taylor Harwood Bellis as he was signed for now.

Apparently this guy is going straight into the first team squad.
He's 6' 4" & quicker than Sulemana.
There's no mention of him being able to defend which is quite helpful when you're a Ctr Back.

Not forgetting of course Kevin Danso, who Ralph thought it a good idea to play at full back for one game only, before hooking him off at half time never to be heard of again until playing for Tottenham and Germany.

Just like Sullemana then - there’s no mention of him being able to attack

What a nonsense.
Signing players & loaning straight out, I don't get it.
This Multi Club ownership should not be allowed by the FA, it's killing our club.
Joshua Quarshie said he was really looking forward to playing for us.
I know it's only a rumour so far that he's being shipped out to Turkey, but there's no smoke without fire & we all know that SR do such daft things.
They should not be involved with football clubs, their model of multi club ownership does not benefit anyone.

We can sleep easy in the knowledge that our club is run by hugely generous types who are helping to financially prop up nondescript clubs in Turkey and France.

Well the guy who we got from valencienes has looked the part in his two sub appearances and at 18 will only get better.

Then there was Mateus Lis, got him on a free, Troyes paid his wages for a year and then we sold him to Goztepe ate a small profit.

Kurun Matsuki bought from Tokyo cheaply (around £1 million) and then Goztepe pay his wages whilst getting him used to football in the west, attacking midfielder could replace Fernades.

Juan was bought for less than £1 million, centre forward value has now more than doubled.

All of these players have actually cost Saints very little, total transfer value we have paid very little of their wages when they have been at the club and are probably breaking even.

We have probably paid about 4 million in transfer fees between them, have already sold 1 for £1 million, have another already broken into the first team squad and two more who will be returning and may either join the squad after successful seasons at Goztepe, may go out on loan again or be sold at a profit.

It has probably cost us less than £4 million net, Yet some go on as if the club are throwing £20 million at it.

It is another way of developing players, probably cheaper than having a youth academy, yet a lot of people use it as a stick to beat the club with.

Plenty of other clubs have used similar systems, Palace, Brighton, Chelsea, Man City for example.

If it's cheaper than our Youth Academy then why do we persist with our Youth Academy which costs a fortune and recently produces very little. ( I know you're going to throw in Tyler Dibling, but it still remains to be seen if he's any good or just a flash in the pan).
We should be concentrating on strengthening our first team & bringing in players that improve our squad instead of spending time / effort & money buying unknown players that we never see playing for our club.

Nick, it may only be a few million here and there but all these few millions here and there add up and I would of rather we'd invested the total amount in a proper centre forward last summer and gave ourselves a fighting chance of staying up, you only have to look at Bournemouth's or Brighton's investment in top players against ours, Ramsdale aside we invested in no proven quality at all, just gambles of a few to ten million here and there?

I’d rather we spent money on the academy and actually tried to keep hold of the good ones for at least a season.

It bewilders me as to how anyone can talk about players looking the part in games that are effectively friendlies.

Nick, I respect your opinion.

I’d just rather see how he does in a game with anything riding on it. Like a Tuesday night up at Preston or Stoke.

What about the loss of management time?

You regularly claim that Ankersen is the main person on the board with football nous.

And yet the majority of his time last season was spent with Goztepe.

Probably because he knew we were doomed and he wanted to take the credit for Goztepe’s improvement.

How in any way does that help Southampton FC?
