War footing 15:22 - Jun 2 with 1372 views | trampie | Looks like we have just been put on a war footing, Starmer says "Every part of society, every citizen of this country has a role to play" . I wonder if our sons and grandsons will be off to war soon. Will Russia take this as a direct threat from the UK I wonder ?

Yes I also think that is a concern.

War footing on 15:57 - Jun 2 with 936 views | Kilkennyjack | Starmer is nuts then. Hope his advisors have more sense. Throwing more young men/women into this conflict will achieve nothing. He needs to find a way of settling it pronto. Sadly it will mean trading land for peace. Putin saves face and we can avoid the alternative that could destroy us all. Please have a rethink, i want to see the Swans storm the Championship next season.

Stand by for the response. Hardly a bloody nose, 10 bombers over 2 airfields were damaged or destroyed [Post edited 2 Jun 17:19]

War footing on 17:29 - Jun 2 with 773 views | Dr_Winston | Can't say that I'm losing too much sleep over the Russia that has have failed to take much more than about a fifth of Ukraine in three years with around a million dead and wounded to show for it. The idea that their armed forces, nuclear deterrent aside, would be more than an annoyance for NATO, even without the US on board is a bit extreme. We have let our armed forces dwindle a bit too much so some attention paid to them is nice, but Vlad's lads won't be marching up the Mall any time soon. In reality they probably won't get past Warsaw.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

They haven't lost anything like that, don't be silly, they couldn't sustain that. The intention was never to take over the country entirely, that's very difficult, the might of the US and it's hangers on got their arses kicked in Iraq and Afghan. There's no reason, no evidence no intelligence to think that Russia would advance further into Europe. The Russian aims are well on track. They are taking settlements and winning small victories all the time. Ye, it's taken time, but they are doing what we couldn't do in Afghanistan. You are correct about our forces, we can't raise a single combat division, or air defences are inferior, our best equipment has been exposed by the Russians r and our troops are not trained for this kind of warfare. We couldn't fight our way out of a wet papaer bag

4 years or less apparently, bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c62v63gl8rvo I think Starmer has chosen his words very badly and Putin will have noticed the word "war" being used. Now I think it could all be hyperbole, inflammatory words being used to scare us plebs into doing what the government wants which may well be tax rises to oay for the armed forces upgrade. I do think Putin has more planned than just Ukraine but an outright attack on NATO? Is he that mad, will he push us towars M.A.D when he knows there'll be no-one left to remember (the great Russian leader Vladimir Putin) after a nuclear holocaust. I see contro is still pushing the Russian propaganists line 90 years ago he'd have been locked up for that. Today we just laugh at such people.

Russia couldn't do anything in Afghanistan either, the ultimate fighting machine you reckon Russia are, is certainly having difficulty in overwhelming Ukraine Over 3 years and counting, and 8 years previous Russia backed separatists have been repelled

The fact he has the gall to use the word ‘we’ when referring to the UK is astounding. As you say, years ago he’d be locked up. Oh, those were the days😁

War footing on 20:25 - Jun 2 with 469 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Putin's basic belief is the soft West especially UK and Europe have no stomach for the fight. Starmer is telling him this is not the case. Putin believed normal Ukrainians love mother Russia. He was completely wrong. Even pro Russians in places like Odessa want them out The people of the Donbass are largely irrelevant and will be replaced by Siberians and would go back to 2013 in a a second.
