So who is available instead of Bazunu, , I have seen the former scapegoat of this parish Fraser Forster cited as a replacement as he must now be good as he played for Spurs after leaving St Mary's

Any of the 23 goalies who performed better than Bazanu 2 years ago in the championship.

It depends what style of football we are going to play next season but if it’s not a form of Russ ball…I’d rather Mccarthy than Bazunu
But rather have Forster than McCarthy if those were the choices

If we could buy someone rather than get them on a free then the fella from Stoke (who was at Rotherham previously)

It’s all irrelevant anyway as Bazunu will be back as number one if he’s fit I’ve a feeling next season.

If that’s true then we can say goodbye to challenging for the title

Unfortunately we have not got too much money to spend this summer so I’ve a feeling we will end up with Bazunu , McCarthy and a free cheap signing to replace Lumley.

It does make me laugh the amount of old players some fans suggest we should get back.

Agreed.
Forget about bringing old ex players back.
The club needs freshening up with new hungry ambitious players.
I'm not suggesting that we should sign all young players, particularly goalkeepers.
Inexperienced young goalies will cost us goals & crucial points.
But there must be a goalkeeper in mid twenties that we could get in that is better than what we have.

Seeing as we will not be playing suicide football involving passing out from the back I'd be amazed if Bazunu starts as first choice. His only attribute is that he is reasonable with the ball at his feet. I'm sure Will Still is going to be selecting a shot stopper which counts Baz out.

When I first mentioned on here that Fraser Forster was available I was being facetious, not serious.

The 2 main keepers will be Baz and McCarthy. Will Still will not have enough time to see their faults in a pre-season because those things only really become clear over the course of several real competitive matches when the pressure is on. Mistakes in pre-season training will be explained by saying "he's a bit rusty and still coming back from injury". If WS does see their weaknesses in time, it will be at the end of the transfer window which won't leave enough time to persuade another club to let go of their first choice keeper.

SR obviously intended that Baz would return at some stage and so won't have anything else planned until WS sees the problem he's got, by which time it will be too late. We will get a new back up but it will be a cheap Joe Lumley type.

We obviously have money, other wise why spunk 3.5mill on a young centreback to add to the dozen or so that we already have.

Our one hope is that Russell Martin may now want Bazunu up at Rangers if he goes there.

Your assuming that Will Still will be the decision maker with players in & players out.
It doesn't always work that way, sometimes the manager has to work with the players they are given & have no input into who comes & who goes.

No, I am assuming he'll be ONE OF the decision makers, and I'm sure he will be. But Spors and Sport Republic will also be decision makers and that's why I'm saying we'll be going with Baz and AM as the top 2 keepers.

SR will currently be thinking that Baz is the future and WS will need a lot of evidence that he isn't before he will convince them to change their plans. He won't have that evidence until at least the end of the window.

Neither of them should be anywhere near our number one starting keeper next season
I would argue that one of them should be nowhere near the squad
How long and how many times do we have to see an error strewn performance before someone realises that a bad keeper undermines the whole team let alone the defence yet here we are still contemplating starting them…?!?

In my dealings with SFC they have always made it clear the manager is always included in the decision making, they said that there is no point in signing somebody if the manager doesn't want hi as he wont play him.

Having said that looking back on those signed last summer and the fact that in the main Martin ignored playing Brereton Diaz, Lallana, Taylor, Ugochukwu, Edwards, Archer, Fraser, & Wood, it seems that something was amiss last summer without a director of football.

I'd bet that Martin gave the green light to all of those players. They might not have been his idea but he would have green lighted them. As you say, it would make no sense to sign players that the manager disagreed with. Even SR aren't that dumb.

Wood and Edwards were always going to be cover for our fabulous 3 first choice CBs, but the rest of them were all given a chance at the beginning (maybe apart from Fraser who was Rusty's mate anyway). They just didn't, or weren't able to take the chance that was given.

Desperately depressing that Bazunu, Forster, McCarthy and Lumley are being discussed as the options, a bit like Starmer, after the Strategic Defence review saying that we’ll be OK with a new Dad’s Army.

Boscombe have a decent understudy keeper Mark Travers, who was on loan at Boro for most of the second-half of last season.

The gift of a season-long loan from our more financially well off / peasant (delete as appropriate) neighbours may be a decent move.

For reasons which are somewhat beyond me, he seemed to get less game time for Ireland than Bazunu. Although both will now struggle with Kelleher now first-pick.

The Goalkeeper is the linchpin of defence.
I admit he will always be at the mercy of his defence as in the case of Ramsdale, but given a reasonable defence in front of him he is vital in organizing it.
