It will suit his style to have a squad that is far and away better than all of the other teams in the League bar one, where the ball can be passed around for 90 mins.

I have nothing against Martin or his style of football, it will suit the job he will need to do for Rangers, my gripe is that he ran his own agenda at Saints

Rangers are miles behind Celtic. He will have his work cut out to win the title.

It will be interesting to see how his teams perform against Celtic, the one team in the league who will have the quality to really press and put pressure on his possession based game

I agree it'll be cushy for him in Scotland, the test will come in Europe. Rangers are in the qualifying for the Champions League. If they get through to the group stages his style will make them look as stupid as he made us look in the PL.

Who knows, perhaps he won’t make Rangers play in the same way as he did with us ?

All ways round, not a bad career move given if we had stuck with him he would be back managing in The Championship next season.

I trust that if Rangers concede a goal in an Old Firm game due to playing suicidal passing triangles in their own area, their fans will look sympathetically on Brent’s post-match assertions that the fans should trust the process and that this is the only way to play football nowadays….

That would be very odd, given that he hardly picked him for us.

Top 3 most likely candidates:-

1. Manning
2. Super Jack
3. Aribo

I could see Edozie going there as well.

I think they could all do their bit for the environment by fitting in one taxi.

Goes to show how far Scottish football is behind English.

A failed premier league manager gets a job for , currently the 2nd club in Scotland .

Will be interesting to see if he’s as good as he thinks he is and actually challenge Celtic for the league.

Also if he tries to raid his old club - Bazunu for example - could work out good all round. Bazunu would not have to save to many shots and may even save one or 2 up in Scotland and we might get a decent fee for him.

I can actually see RM doing very well for Rangers. Apart from Celtic there is no opposition so his players will be far superior to the others and they’ll be able to pass it around at will with no counter pressing.

With Bloom from Brighton taking a percentage at Hearts , and using their moneyball knowledge... maybe just maybe they could make a better challenge next season ? According to the statement the Yank owners are going to make a share issue to raise 20M ... they already have 4.5 ring fenced for a sicknote winger, so unless Saints send some players on loan , can't see them selling anyone to RM, as surely they will be wanting to make money ? As a Celtic man "we welcome the chase"

Quote from Martin after appointment:

We want to play with bravery, to take the ball, to be aggressive, and to stand up in the big moments."

Shame, he didn't apply some of this whilst at Saints !

I guess being brave and aggressive he means, not being scared to pass the ball beyond the half way line and create chances to score.

Still can't see him finishing above Celtic.

It's inconceivable to think that his time with us hasn't taught him anything?
If he has taken on board the failings in his footballing ideas the SPL is a reasonably soft test for the next stage in his learning.
However it could be the case that he remains a stubborn and arrogant pr*ck!
Be interesting how it goes

I genuinely don’t remember loathing Redknapp as much as I did RM. Never in my life had I been so bored watching his brand of football.

On reflection mind, watching City go into ten minutes of Injury time in the FA Cup final and still be pïssing around with the ball (rather than pumping it in the box) shows exactly where these so called experts are focussing the efforts. Cannot stand Gary Neville, but his detest for this modern style is on my wavelength.

Still, it’s Rangers problem now…….

He used to say the same stuff about bravery when he was here. It means "be brave enough to receive the ball in your own penalty area with 3 forwards around you and then thread a pass through the eye of a needle".

The stuff about aggression is new. Saints definitely weren't aggressive under him. When Spors was saying we need to play with more intensity, I think this was part of what he was getting at. We still have that hangover from the passive way we played under RM. Perhaps RM has recognised that too.

Rangers have had a really good pedigree in European football over the last 5 years or so.

They have over-achieved in the Europa League, given the terrible standard of football in their domestic League.

Given that Martin has had no experience of managing in European football, I can totally understand their fans being underwhelmed.
