Well they spread out around the world to get the biggest audience possible then they chose clubs based on appeal, I'd say. Some clubs may have been asked and refused because it may be a tad sensitive, I remember all the fuss is Liverpool when the ESL was coming.
It's all about the massive audience and the amount of money they can raise because they are paying out unusually large prize money, it has a one BILLION dollar prize fund. They will get 97 million quid for winning it, WOW.
There is also a big "global solidarity" payment because apparently they want to make football, waitt for it, TRULY GLOBAL. How ridiculous is that, is there any major team sport played in as many countries as football? Rugby pales in comparison with 133 countries, Cricket has 102 (96 associate members, 12 test members) while football...211 members of FIFA which is interesting becayuse acording to the UN there are only 195 countries. |  | | |

I'm all for more games with lower ticket prices, 26 teams in the divisions equalling 50 games a league season, 2 points for a win, squads are big enough for teams to rotate players anyway as it is now, League cup rounds to be 2 legs in preparation for Europe away goals to count, Champions league for league winners only with away goals and straight to penalties if its a tie. | |

There's gonna be some hammerings for sure. Bayern Munich v Auckland City who are 100% amateur team made up of real estate agents, postment etc.
FYI they do have set criteria for who qualifies for the tournament. It is not just inviting teams and waiting to see who accepts.
Living in South Carolina in this massive landmass of the USA the nearest game to me is Bayern v Benfica in Charlotte North Carolina about 3 1/2 hours away. Might go up and watch that one
