£445 million for rail investment in Wales 10:01 - Jun 12 with 2364 views | johnlangy | This £445 million is split into three. The first pot of £300 million will ALL be spent on the line between Magor and Cardiff providing 5/6 new stations. The second pot of £48 million is for enhancement to the Core Valleys Lines, part of the South Wales Metro which has already had £1.2 billion spent on it. That leaves £90 million for a series of future projects over the next ten years. I wonder how many of those future projects will be in SE Wales. So that means, effectively, just about everything for the already bloated South East Wales (similar to everything for the bloated South East of England on a UK basis) with almost nothing for the rest of Wales. When Plaid's manifesto for next year's election is produced I expect them to state categorically that they will do a complete reversal of Welsh Labour's approach and invest everything they possibly can into the rest of Wales and not into the SE which has had far more than it's fair share for decades.

Said it before, and I'll say it again. Anyone outside the CF Postcode area who voted in favour of Devolution basically f*cked the places they live in. Was obvious at the time, and even more so now. If they knew enough to be ashamed of their choices that would be something, but for some reason most of them ignore the evidence of the last 26 years and double down on them.

Reform to put a referendum on retaining the Senedd in their manifesto. After all some say Farage is not interested in Wales. Win the vote to get in the Senedd, hold the referendum and win, ditch the Senedd and get out. Then in the run up to the general election they can say they won in Wales and gave the people what they wanted.

I don't know if a vote to ditch the Senedd would win because of the amount of idiots who voted for the thing to exist in the first place. Basically everywhere in North Wales has taken a kicking since Devolution, but undoubtedly they have plenty of Trampies who will ignore that and vote for their abusers continued existence. I hope that one day the rest of Wales will be freed from the Tyranny of Cardiff and its Quislings, but that's all it is. Hope.

I think if there was a referendum tomorrow there’d be an excellent chance of the Assembky getting the shove. However, whether enough woukd vote for a party putting it forward in their manifesto then maybe / maybe not. I’ve got no qualms about voting for Reform next year. Politics in Wales needs a reset and sometimes it takes a radical change in approach to get back to an even keel. I certainly won’t be voting Labour and definitely never ever Plaid.

I wish I could agree. There was a vote not that long ago on whether to give the WG more powers and despite well over a Decade of incompetence by that point the aye's won. Wales has a very masochistic electorate. No matter how many times the Goverment it elects kicks it in the face they still seem to beg for more.

I heard an interview about human psychology and entrenched opinions this week, apparently it is usually the case that people with entrenched opinions will become attached to them the more substantial the evidence is to disprove their opinion. The need to be right will outweigh the need to understand. [Post edited 12 Jun 23:50]

I will hold my hand up and say I voted for devolution. I was sold a dream of elected members doing the best for the whole of Wales and with elected members who know exactly the needs of Welsh people would provide improved services and opportunities. In short creating a better Wales. This has not materialised, it has been a disaster and we now lag behind the rest of the UK in many areas including health and wellbeing, particularly if you live outside SE Wales. The Senedd has shown over the last 25 years that it is not fit for purpose and should be disbanded, they have had their chance and failed miserably, how many more years do we need to suffer the incompetence. Yes I admit I was wrong and it is people like myself who are to blame for voting for this in the first place, but it can still be reversed and it needs to be done.

In fairness John, and DrW can defend himself I’m sure but it may have been tempting to a great number in 1997 to vote for the Assembly. I was never convinced and the size of the margin of victory suggests it was very much split down the middle. In hindsight however one can see that the way they’ve operated over a 25 year period has not been for the good of Wales and all they’ve succeeded in doing is create a city state with everything going into Cardiff and it’s environs. All at the expense, unashamedly of the rest of Wales. And it doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon.

I've said this many times but imo the 20mph fiasco has awoken the eyes of the Welsh electorate which normally wouldn't have responded in the way it did with a petition , a petition which was ignored by those who are supposed to represent the opinions of the people who elected them .No one likes being ignored at the best of times but the strength of feelings towards this policy shows that hopefully next year the wishes of the people will not be ignored again .

You are wrong. People want lives to be saved. Bad implementation does not make it a bad policy. How many welsh people did not sign your petition ? And its not just Wales, of course, ..

I will hold my hand up and say i voted for devolution. I would do the same tomorrow. I dont want a Wales-shire, i want Wales to have a democratic voice. Just like other normal European nations. I dont want the likes of Johnson deciding things for Wales from Westminster. Devo-max would be better but Starmer is a Brit-Nat to his boots. [Post edited 13 Jun 12:28]

You are not in a position to say who's right or wrong , regardless of how many didn't sign the petition enough did to warrant & deserve a response , if you really want to cut road deaths down to zero would you be prepared to support no cars at all , what is the number of deaths acceptable to you ?

Clearly i am posting my opinion. The 20 mph is clearly a road safety and financial success - less for our NHS to do fixing broken people. Car insurance prices also down as decreased risk of paying out. It can be tweaked as necessary, but its a huge success. No need to set up straw man arguments, not serious. JDrakers was right (and many others), and the angry white middle aged men crowd were wrong (again). In Drakers we trust.
