Absolutely shocking.

Whoever is in charge of base security is going to be having many interviews without coffee in the next few weeks.

Someone slipped up. Anyone tampering with aircraft should have been shot on sight.

Stupid people everywhere, I quite enjoyed the white British people waving the Iranian flag in London last weekend, they would not last 5 mins before being incarcerated if they arrived In Iran.

If the perpetrators are caught, I wonder if they'll go down for a good few years or face Starmers justice

That's what you get when you introduce private security firms to manage your assets instead of letting the military carry on doing what it had been doing for hundreds of years

I was based at Brize Norton between 1980-1983 and worked on the VC10s

We had 4 shift teams o0f different aircraft trades working on the aircraft 24/7/365 whatever the weather. You worked 3 12 hour days 3 12 hour nights and 6 days off.

Engineer fro0m one of the other shifts went to the pan to work on a VC10 one night, some areas were pitch black as planes were parked all over the place. He started up the ground generator to get power to the aircraft and this would switch on some of the lighting.

He went up the stairs into the cockpit and saw a guy covered in blood pissing in the cockpit.

Turns out he had escaped from an institution (he wasn't military), scaled the barbed wired fence, that's why he was cut to bits.

Brize is a huge base and the outer perimeter circling the base in miles. Its like a small town.

No matter how big Brize is security failed and failed badly. Swap paint for bombs and these terrorists would have caused carnage. Somebody needs sacking immediately and when these invaders are caught they should be tried under the terrorism laws.

I didn't say it was acceptable and probably security is different now to then as CCTV is all over the place.

I have seen one video and it was at night.

This organisation should be given public funding to test out UK security. In fact I would pay the protestor £500 each to paint free Palestine on any RAF jet or building.

This offer would be open at all time. They cannot actually a damage anything of course.

It is a social service and natural auditing of security.

If the bases are on their toes there is no problem. Everyone these days should be on alert.

If your collar is not being checked why bother changing your shirt.

No offence meant to yourself. I’m really sorry if it came across that way.
My anger is directed at the powers that be for allowing this to happen.

Blame the top man and head of security at Brize Norton. Asleep at the wheel. This is a warning. Next time Russian or Middle Eastern saboteurs.

They were audited by a rag bag of activists with no technical ability and found out. Shameful.

It wasn't being secured by the military although you're right on other aspects .
My mate is an ex RAF dog handler and was based at Brize Norton back in the 70's , no messing in those days by all accounts.

Military base not secured by our military you say - flipping heck, our military planes tampered with, - crikey, I'm not saying to wind anyone up but what happened is truely pathetic, we are a laughing stock.

The IRA would be having a field day with htis kind of lax security, hardly security at all really. These private comonaies put their bid in and then, when in place, cut back and take chances so they make more profit.

Military bases should be guarded by our military and they should carry loaded weapons too.

Then there's cctv, night vision and motion sensors, dog patrols.

The government don't want to spend the money though, this is decades of penny pinching in an area we really cannot afford sich dickwaddery.

We'll throw billions at foreign aid, billions at foreign wars, billions looking after people who don't belong here then we underfund and mismanage essential services and this with the military, no wonder people don't want to sign up these days.

Rant over.

RAF Police and Regt caught napping. My son in law is a Regt sgt there. Heads will roll.

Plus, there are a few RAF facilities which look after nuclear weapons, SD814 is the old terminology. Had they picked one of those they would be dead now.

Heads need to roll. This time it was protestors but what if the Russians and Chinese come snooping?

Boundy said it wasn't the military guarding it though, that makes it even worse if they were.

This is just the most prominent of a whole string of attacks on UK defence facilities by Palestine Action and fellow travellers. BAE, Thales and Elbit Systems are among those who have suffered damage. So far, the penalties have been quite modest - less that somebody gets for a stupid Twitter post. These people need to be made aware that persons sabotaging the UK's defensive capabilities will be subject to use of lethal force.

Do you know if the 'Rock Apes' do guard duty ?, my understanding is they protect outside the airfields, infantry trained, so would be attackers could be stopped so that planes can take off and land, but they are not actually on gate or look out tower duties.
This is awful I wonder whether anyone in command will carry the can or if more junior heads will carry the can, perhaps its a money issue to give doctors and teachers more coin, I wonder what the outcome of any investigation will be.

A squadron of guard dogs would be the first line of defence I would think.

Alsatian or suitable. Perhaps with sub contracting the old methods have been thrown out.

The da r the demonstrators got in and out without anyone noticing tells me no dogs were on duty
