The Gwent levels 20:38 - Jul 2 with 1132 views | SullutaCreturned | The Senedd wouldn't put a road across it for ecological reasons but it sems they aren't averse to all developments on that land, walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/this-irretrievably-damage-nationally-important-31974084?int_source=nba I understand the need for more renewable energy but we can't keep damaging habitats to get that sustainable electricity.. Who remembers Drakefirds stance at the time? Mr Drakeford's move to scrap the six-lane scheme follows a public inquiry overseen by planning inspector Bill Wadrup, who said the case for the road had been "compelling". Ministers had decided that, with austerity and Brexit in the background, the uncertainty of the financial position of the Welsh Government meant the project was too expensive. But Mark Drakeford said he would not have gone ahead even if it was affordable because of the impact on the Gwent Levels. Mr Cairns said: "It appears that the first minister thinks he knows better than the independent inquiry." These solar farm schemes could cover even more land than the motorway if they are all approved and once one is approved it sets a precedent. So what of the impact on the levels now Mark Drakeford?

Drakeford is a loathsome creature, he used Covid as a hammer to hit back at London specifically Johnson, he's the epitome of someone who used his absolute power ,(power which should never have been given to him ,like too many others in Welsh politics ) which cost lives, closed businesses and lost jobs. His legacy is nothing as befits his memory.

Could this have been in the planning stages when Dreadful pulled the plug on the relief road, this is right up his street so it may have legs. [Post edited 3 Jul 18:54]

Johnson transferred infected elderly people in hospital s to care homes to create space. It was a disaster. Johnson gets a free pass on here while Drakeford who wanted to be careful gets pelters.

It might have turned out like that and been a massive drain on funds. I am not sure how solar farms affect the newts birds and I sects but probably less that a big road.

Well they're going to have to put thoisands of concrete bases in for the panels to go on. Then they're going to have to put miles and miles of cabling in which will be underground so it will all be dug up.. These solar farms (if approved) will cover vastly more area than the relief road would have which means a lot more area being dug up. Not to forget of course that all this equipment will be conveyed by big lorries that will trundle all across the levels too. Oh and thousands of man hours trudging around on the levels too, they'kll probably be a boggy mess after all that. So posiibly, it could be more damaging than the road.
The Gwent levels on 16:17 - Jul 3 with 543 views | ReslovenSwan1 | I do not think they have bid g concrete bases as they are light. It will need a a small an access road and a one off underground cables. The loss of sunlight will clearly have an effect . Presumably the newt frogs and lizards will survive and sun is not their friend ( presumably)

'I do not think they have bid g concrete bases as they are light' If they followed that then the first named storm in October and one or more of those panels are in some poor old ladies kitchen. Also Solar panels are very desirable to thieves so not only is it one cable its an entire security system with guards, CCTV, high fences etc. for the life of the farm. I know this as there's a decent size solar farm being finished off not far from me and it looks horrible. This is a massive own goal for Cardiff bay if they allow this.

Or, you could be entirely wrong....I suppose they could be balancing the metal frames on top of the earth with nothing to hold them in place... vitalenergi.co.uk/solar-farms/ A small access road, then how do they get the JCB's there?

I was involved in the assessment of the world's biggest wind farm in Isle of Lewis. Aat the time 25 years back.. Solar panels are light and do not need big concrete bases. Some solar farms have sheep grazing between them. They will have to be secured in to the ground to avoid wind effects.

Johnson was a total disaster on COVID moving infected old people in hospitals to uninfected care home to create space. He was careless costing lives. Drakeford could be accused of being too cautious and it certainly bought time until the vaccine was developed. Like Sturgeon I he is fair game for the Unionist flag waver who wants all decisions taken in London.

Parliamentary people are disliked everywhere w rightly or wrongly Starmer is not popular neither was Sunak. Johnson was a complete idiot in many people eyes. The English establishment wants the Senedd as it save them being the target of criticism in Wales. Redwood was loathed and probably never wanted to be here. Devolved Government leaders are given special treatment and silly nicknames for some reason while English ones are not.

and I was a site manager for a number of wind farms for ten years until recently. Commercial solar panels need two people to move them into their securing brackets , the way that solar panels are secured to teh ground are by piling the frame work into the ground ,the Gwent levels by their nature contains water now whether piling without concrete can do the do the job will be determined by the environmental assessment ,you're right about securing them ,otherwise Newport could be bombarded with unfettered solar panels .

I call BS on that then, groundscrewcentre.co.uk/foundations-for-solar-installations-a-comprehensive-guide#:~:text=Solar%20panels%20need%20a%20rock,lasting%20performance%20with%20minimal%20disruption. Read it carefully, concrete has been th go to solution. As it goes technology is moving on and it won't be the go to for long. BTW, I didn't say "big concrete bases" I said thousands because the ones I have seen have had small concrete bases at each support strut. The solar farm at Felindre has had sheep in amongst it, concrete supports and all.
