Snoop Dog / Wrexham / new kit on 01:34 - Jul 13 with 2961 views | swansjack84 | Hold your breath for this rant. Honestly, the self entitletment and arragance from many fans on social media and other sites is insane. Is it a media circus with Wrexham? Yes. Has it benefited them. Yes! Why are we sitting here saying does it make us look small or is it pathetic to have 2 clubs from Wales trying to create some Hollywood media buzz.? Take a step back people. This is a business. And the football world is changing. Top celeb names, doing a Wrexham is now becoming the norm. Many might not like it, but it's a model that has worked for them. It might not work for every club, but what's the alternative? Maybe we just go down the leagues and get Bonnie Tyler to be holding a shirt? Will that make you happy? Maybe doing a Delia Smith? Let's Be Havin Ya! At the end of the day, if this means more eyes are on the club, and in the media, this only benefits the club and it's growth on and off the pitch. Maybe next year there will be a documentary on Disney channel, about Welsh rivals? Who knows. And in a lot of people's eyes, who cares? But the club does. There is an argument to what is the right and wrong way to rise up the leagues? Who knows? But this is a business. And if that means having a Modric, or a Snoop to push the brand to help the club across the board. Then bring it on. On side note - I don't like Wrexham, never watched any documentary and could care less about them. But if my non football fan neighbour is talking to me about, have you watched that documentary about Wrexham then that tells you what you need to know. [Post edited 13 Jul 1:37]

Good post, there's the possibility of value for us by positioning ourselves as rivals to Wrexham if only for commercial reasons.

Here you go. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c3d1lyxd71eo Perhaps the narrow valley the ex copper from the Wirral talks about is the Afan Nedd Tawe not Afan Nedd. The Yanks love Swansea more than the locals it seems . He is with around £160m and got £10m for work at the Paris Olympics. [Post edited 13 Jul 18:09]

Really appreciate that 👍 I undertand why people might feel that it's odd to have snoop or to start some sort of rivalry. But alot of people lose sight of the bigger picture. I'm not saying this 1 marketing campaign will suddenly lead us to having the next big sponsor or player to join us. But it's a push to put the club in people's mindset and further leverage in the market place. There will always be a split in opinions and those with a mindset that why do we need to participate in a circus. As someone who has worked in film, TV and marketing, I can tell you this. Adapt or get left behind. I may not be a fan of the most recent trend of a dance or something, but don't underestimate the power of influence if done right.

I’m very split on this to be honest. Understand we need to maximise commercial income and that bringing global stars on board undoubtedly exposes us to new markets and people who probably don’t even know we exist. It’s outside the box, it’s creative and I’m sure it will increase our revenue. If we try to manufacture a rivalry with Wrexham to appeal to global audiences though, I kind of feel that’s not what football is about and we would be selling out a little bit. It’s almost a bit WWE. Really undecided. I can see positives in it, but at the same time, I don’t want us to become a pantomime club.

Understand your concerns It's funny. I am actually a long time wrestling fan for over 40 years. Its the same issue many have. Why do they bring in celebrities like Logan Paul or yes Snoop has appeared in the ring. It's understanding that yes it's a theatre and yes I know it's a different market to football. But there is a reason why wwe is on Netflix and they have gotten rid of their own network. It's called reaching a wider market on all fronts. I undertand that the club might be manufacturing a rivalry. Look we know it - they know it, Cardiff knows it. Well you would like to think they do. We are the most successful Welsh team, we produce more Welsh international in recent times and than any other Welsh club and much more. If the club wants to create a buzz. So be it If I don't like it, just don't look. That's not dig at you mate don't worry. I am just pointing out that, just because a sponsor let's say Prime drink is on a shirt doesn't mean the players have to drink it. But it's association I'm sure Snoop won't wear his Swansea kit to bed. But what it does do is, it establishs a strong marketing presence and positions both brands into target audiences that can benefit both and wider audiences. When someone buys a David Beckham aftershave, they want the smell yes, but the idea that maybe he uses the same brand is sellable in itself. Anyone remember Britney Spears? Pepsi is Pepsi? And how that can back fire. But done right, Snoop wearing slippers in front of the fire with the Swansea logo would sell alot more and get more eyes than a copy and paste handsome model. It's a balance and as long as its not negatively affecting on pitch or off then such promotions should be encouraged. [Post edited 13 Jul 19:36]

To be clear on this, I’m not against a rivalry with Wrexham, that’s bound to happen organically to some extent and I’m all for it. I’m also in no way against Snoop Dogg or any other high profile celebrity being associated with the club. What I don’t think I’d like is Snoop and Reynolds going at each other in a manufactured beef designed to attract the Jake Paul market. Totally understand it would be very lucrative, but at some point you’ve got to consider the clubs integrity. Appreciate this will sound insular, but we’re a local football club, I wouldn’t be interested in us turning into a circus. I’m not sure it would be the kind of thing you could pretend wasn’t happening either. Obviously none of this has happened, we’re just discussing the route we could be going down. I’m not against it to an extent, but there’s definitely a line I wouldn’t want to cross. Wrexham are as much a soap opera as a football club at the moment.

Get your points and undertand all perspectives. You mentioned local club. It needs to keep it's integraty and build on its loyal fan base and never forget that. But having the local chip shop owner to promote the next season shirt won't drive international revenue. Again no pop at you. I'm just pointing out that the circus visits every town. It's really down to the club if they want more talent and attractions to get people invested in the vision. Now if we was changing the badge like Cardiff did many moons ago and we was doing things to get into other markets that's a different matter.

Do you really envy them? I don't. I value marketing and what they have done commercially and encourage growth. No doubt Swansea higher ups want a piece of the pie. But there is a clear line between commercial asperations and what we do and are building towards in the background. Our signings and who we have at club is not one that is trying to mimic them. There has to be a balance mate. I agree, I’d much rather us be sponsored by a global brand than Westacres or the Uni and have the revenue that would bring. I’m all for promoting us around the globe and having fans everywhere. There has to be a line somewhere for me. I can imagine a fake beef between Reynolds and Snoop becoming very cringeworthy and at that point I’d probably be thinking - ‘we’re a football club not a pantomime’. Not everyone would agree as long as the money was coming in and that’s fair enough. It wouldn’t be as bad as changing the shirt colour or putting a dragon on the badge I agree, but it’s kind of in the same direction. If we can do it without undermining ourselves, which in my opinion, inventing a rivalry with Wrexham to be played out on TikTok would be, I’ll be happy.
