£2 billion for an accidental security breach. 33,000 and their "family members".

My neighbour works in social services. She tells me the Afghans had a lot of trouble getting their family over. Their wive(s) and children. Did you notice the plural. It is actually supposed to be illegal over here.

We cannot run a welfare state with open borders.

Maybe you're taking something a bit tii literally, there are a lot of men and they had wives, it doesn't mean they are all polygamous though it may occur and is legal in Afghan and in Islamic law.

As to the rest, these people helped us during a very nasty war, they risked their lives and are as worthy of coming here as any other immigrant and certainly more worthy than many.

It was a data breach by some feckless civil servant. £2 billion it has cost. I would make a guess and I bet the person was "working from home".

We are as nation becoming more sloppy by the day and the taxpayers are getting clobbered. We cannot afford our own airport at 10% of this cost over 10 years apparently.

I was stunned when I read this, it’s a real mess.

FWIW I’ll give my tuppence worth. The leak should never have happened and someone or several persons should be held to account over it. The fact that the current government have hidden behind the “we don’t comment on individuals” is really poor, we deserve an answer as to what has happened and the punishment.

The previous government hid this behind a super injunction - that’s outrageous and a blatant attempt to hide it from the public and from scrutiny. Disgusting behaviour. I could understand a very short term injection to be able to evacuate those at risk, but not a long term super injunction that they can hide behind. Even the judge commented on the lack of accountability in a democracy.

As far the Afghans themselves, I agree with Cat’s comments. “These people helped us during a very nasty war, they risked their lives and are as worthy of coming here as any other immigrant and certainly more worthy than many.”

When people step up to the plate to back you, the least you can do if it goes Pete Tong is have their back. It’s about doing the right thing. There’s no doubt in my mind had these individuals remained in Afghanistan that the Taliban would have killed then and their families.

We have a moral obligation to those who assist us during wartime (for the same reason the treatment of Gurkhas has been pretty shocking) so I have no problem with relocating people to the UK as a thank you for their assistance.

What shouldn't happen is the Government lying about it. Heads should roll over that. Any currently still elected official involved should lose their seat. Any civil servant involved should lose their job.

One of, if not the major reasons for the current downfall of British society at every level is that hardly anyone faces consequences for their actions any more. From petty thieves walking out of Greggs without paying to incompetent Government officials screwing up to elected leaders lying on a regular basis.

Nobody.

*Edited for updating news*

I would wager that nobody involved in the NHS Fife case, persecuting a nurse for not wanting to undress in front of a man in a skirt, will face serious sanction either. Hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayers cash pissed away.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

You're wrong it wasn't a civil servant but a Royal Marine tasked with vetting said Afghans for the resettlement schemes but regardless the implications for the leak are huge .

Res, why on earth say it was a civil servant when you don't know who it was and why 'guess' that it was a person working from home when you don't know that it was.

Why not just say what you know.

They were employed by the British army. The British army leaked information. They can continue they work with the British army where they have years of experience.

Was the leak really inadvertent or was it deliberate? A soldier looking after his mates?

33,000 mates, popular guy, or gal. It could be a woman? I haven't seen the latest so I don't know.

Regardless, the tories shouldn't have tried to cover it up BUt we have a moral responsibilty to those thousands who risked their lives to help our armed forces.

What next, will you be complaining about the Ghurka's who come here?

They could have been sent to Pakistan as Sunni Muslims for safety or even dare I say it Rwanda. We apparently give aid to India Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The numbers are less than this apparently. The main people who worked with the UK army had already been looked after. They need to be given a job and the army has vacancies.

Remember we are a welfare state. Free school free education until 16 free health service. The taxpayer is being milked.

If the state is cavalier with this then end the welfare state.

Res shot from the hip here with some contentious claims, but the point about the welfare state is correct. As Milton Friedman famously said, you can have a welfare state or you can have open borders, but not both (again one of the few things he got right). We are getting to the point where the theory is starting to become reality.

Wrong again , the Royal Marines fall under the command and control of the Royal Navy and finally don't called a Marine a soldier if you know what's good for you.

The personal details of serving and former members of UK special forces, and the security services, were included in Afghan data breach.

So would you send these people to Pakistan or Rwanda??

You boys and the Government at the time have missed seeing the big picture - are they traitors ?, that is the question.
What type of undesirables have been let in to our country ?
If they want to take the risk of siding with a foreign power/invaders against their own people for money then that is their choice, we should not be letting them in here, if you live by the sword and all that.
Are these people gangsters/warloads ? that the Taliban fought because of corruption, when the Taliban are the ones claiming to be fighting corruption and drug trade then you have to wonder what some on the otherside were like themselves.

Continually being banned by Planet Swans for Porthcawl and then being reinstated.

No. I do not even believe they are in any danger at all. There is no evidence that i have seen that the Taliban ever got the files.

The Taliban offered an amnesty to people who worked with foreigners although there are reported incidences of killing and reappraisals. UK had duty of care to give protection not citizenship into our much loved welfare state.

They can of course be an asset if thy graft. I have suggested thy could continue to work for the MoD.

Its estimated that its out of the many thousands pumped into the UK its only 1 in 16 who actually helped Coalition forces , ironically many are now housed in MOD property on Salisbury Plain .
