I've dabbled with this over the years, but I have taken the plunge over the last couple of weeks. I've turned the temperature down to around 25c, now this doesn't sound too cold, but I would normally take a 40c shower. I've just had a look on line and I see that to get all the benefits of a cold shower it needs to be 15c, no effing way. Any cold shower enthusiasts out there? How do you manage? I can see doing this during the summer months, but in the dead of winter?

Have it on warm , then do a quarter of a turn every 25 seconds or so . Gets rid of that sudden shock and when you reach your limit , stay there asap .
Yeah, best way. I do it after a sauna but there is no way I could go straight into a freezing cold shower. Apparently it's a bit dangerous to do that due to the shock.
On the wild swimming I go running along the Thames in the morning and I see them in there near Teddington lock. Nuts.
30 seconds minimun each shower. Plus got a extra large whiskey barrell thats set up for cold dipping.
Its great for your immune system and stem cell generation. Did a Wim Hoff day a few yers back and love the breath work and cold showers. It does set you up for the day for sure, or helps calm you on an evening.
Highly recommend, but i know its sometimes hard to turn that dial all the other way.

I‘m one of those tedious wild swimmers.
I‘ve swum in lochs and the sea in January / February no problem but i‘ll be fcked if I can manage a cold shower.
Apologies Baz . You could never be classed as tedious. I’ve got a brother who does wild swimming. He is tedious. I’ve got childhood memories of strandhill in co Sligo and freezing my nuts off . Brought it all back . The Atlantic is beautiful but it’s also brass monkeys.

Haha not at all mate. No need to apologise.
I‘ve become the geezer in the pub I used to avoid.
Ireland next on my list!

them waves as we drove down to the front at strandhill used to frighten the life out of me... fair play to you for swimming in that lot.
When it’s been really hot and the house is throbbing with heat at 11pm I find a cold bath immediately before bed is the only way to drop the body’s temperature where it’s comfortable to get into bed and stay cool for some time. Cold showers just don’t drop the body temperature enough. It sounds awful and it is tough to get past the shock on the nether regions but once you’ re in it’s luuuverly.

As I understand it, that is completely missing the point - the idea is to give the body a horrible shock so that all sorts of desperate measures kick in which are supposedly good for you. Basically, you kid your body that it's got about 10 seconds left to sort out all that booze, cake and lying on the sofa that you've been throwing at it for years.
Sounds bloody awful to me but that's healthy living for you.

Sounds like some influencer bullshit. Get up at 5am, cold shower, some coffee bollocks with a ton of supplements in it, work out for an hour and then meditate before "doing business" shit.
Fk off. I'll get up later and have a hot shower like a fking normal person.

Only one serious study has ever been done on this and the purported benefits are somewhat tenuous. Actual old fashioned exercise is a far better way to boost your immune system and fitness.

But if masochism's your thing please crack on!
It’s defo good for the head, even it‘s a placebo thing.
Had some difficult periods at work recently and a good swim at 5 in the morning when you have the whole beach to yourself feels great and gives you some good thinking time.
Can’t say my body feels great. If anything you get the odd earache.

Guy i used to work with many years ago was lucky enough to have an indoor swimming pool. Great guy, in his early-mid 60’s. Ate well, looked after himself. Couple of weeks before Christmas just gone, either it was forgotten or something happened to the timer but the pool didn’t warm up in the morning.Jumped straight in, body went into shock. Dead. RIP.

Well thats a terrible sad end to the first page of very enjoyable posts .RIP No cold showers for me too worried about the heart giving out even if its turned slowly from hot to cold . I do admire people who jump from freezing pools into hot tubs and back again which apparently is very healthy for body and mind

Like anything you do you build up a tolerance to it.
4 degrees here in New Zealand this morning. I have an outdoor shower at my place as we are close to the beach.
I wake up and go outside and cold shower. Im in it for around 2-5 mins. No build up from hot to cold just get my feet, thigh then whole body goes in. The feeling after I'm finished is magic. I'm not a morning person in the slightest but it really does the trick.
Good dopamine hit that can last up to half a day. Would love an ice bath one day.

So it's a yes from me.
I like the idea of an outside shower and not far from the beach, fantastic! When my parents retired to Florida, they had a small house with an outside shower, although the beach was on the other side of a busy road. My first foray into public nudity, and I liked it.
