Clink comes from the 12th century Clink Prison in Southwark, one of England’s oldest and most notorious prisons. The Clink Prison Museum on the original site is worth a visit. The term "The Clink" is indeed believed to derive from the sound of chains or metal doors clinking.

Totton being accused of having no class for signing him. Where do you stand? I think that he has served the time he was given and should be given a fair chance to turn his life around.

You're thinking of Richard Johnson who was brought in to shore our midfield up for the final 3 months of the 2003/04 promotion season, did decent enough from memory but was let go fairly early into the following season when he struggled with the step-up. Without looking it up on Wikipedia, I'm sure the time he spent in Australia was down to drink driving.

He was actually sentenced to 4 years, and was out after a month for 'time served' etc. It always makes me laugh mirthlessly how delusional the prison service is.

The prison service doesn't decide that. It's the MoJ, probation service, and various parole boards who decide release dates. Sometimes it's eyebrow raising, but we've not got all the facts to hand have we? [Post edited 12 Aug 15:58]
