Chorley Game 21:56 - Jul 23 with 2555 viewsmikehunt

Dee Ess saves the day by all accounts.
1-0 down at half time. 2 goals by Mani in the second half give us the win.

Barrow should give us a real test.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

Sounds a bizarre incident in the first half when the trialist keeper was shown a red card by the ref only to then be allowed to continue.

Poor for the first half hour, the “sending off” being the main talking point. Andy Preece looked to be wanting the game to remain 11 v 11. We probably should have been level by half time with a lot of good play down the left.

Dieseruvwe with a well taken first and the second from “Mitchell territory” after a great team move. He could have had a third too.

Barlow and Pritchard impressed and I’d now like to see Pettit with East or Gilmour rather that latter two together who we already know about.

Agree with the sentiments in your last paragraph. I’m also very surprised we haven’t seen Mani and Rodney play together yet.

Up until their goal we couldn’t get out of our own half.

As seen last year, if we are 100% determined to play it out from the back every single goal-kick without exception, the opposition can press high and we get nowhere time and time again.

Red card was extremely marginal, linesman didn’t flag, ref was square on. Was a great save by young Tom. Ref put the mousse line about 1cm from the edge of the box for the free kick.

Absolute kudos to Chorley for allowing him to stay on.

Chorley goal - free header at back post

Second half we were on the front foot a lot more but Chorley had taken players off, so hard to compare.

Main factor i think is where the two teams are at pre-season. This was Chorley’s 6th friendly having had Wigan, Preston and Bradford visit previously. In the first half especially i think this showed.

Man D (Mandy) is a better nickname.
And he's got his own song right there!

Oh Mandy
You came and you scored you're amazing
And I need you today
Oh Mandy...

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

He might not like being called Mandy, are you going to be the first to ask him?😁

I would like to see this, I hope we don't just stick Rodney out wide again. He's far more productive and interested when he's up front as he proved in the second half of last season.

He played in the same position all season. The only difference was that he was injury free for the tail end of the season.

He doesn't play out wide. We play two number 10s and the wing backs provide the width

Possession with progression.

That and playing alongside Bird suited his style of play much more than Kairo. Without checking the stats I can’t imagine there was too many games over the previous 2 seasons where both Rodney and Kairo found the scoresheet in the same game.
