Double de-clutching, gassing the gear, sliding the clutch... also, learning how to replace the clutch and pads due to too much of the aforesaid!

Jumpers for goal posts (and batteries), those were the days!

Apparently topping up the battery still forms part of the theory test even though they’re sealed now!!

Clutch as in the steel industry (my game) are the interlocking spaces between piles that are driven into the ground to hold up groundwork or subsiding earth.
Yes I’m a boring knut.

It's a mechanical device that connects and disconnects the engine from the transmission (gearbox), allowing the driver to change gears smoothly or stop the vehicle without stalling the engine. It acts as a bridge between the the engine's rotating parts and the wheels' rotational movement.

Or In military terms a Woman's wee wee thingy.

To pass your driving test In the Army involved a Two hour drive In a Landover split between cross Country and Town, I took my test In Germany, If you 'crunched' the gear box whilst changing gear you were instantly failed.

In old non synchromesh gearboxes, to change from say 2nd to 3rd, you'd depress the clutch ( tell it about QPR’s injuries ), change from 2nd neutral, depress it again and change from neutral to 3rd.

Clutch:
(in sport) denoting or occurring at a critical situation in which the outcome of a game or competition is at stake.
e.g. "they both are hard-nosed players who seem to thrive in clutch situations"

It's another Americanism that's crept over here. It basically means a player's ability to perform consistently in high pressure situations like a penalty shootout or produce a cross like our Chloe did for the equalizer.

Poll: Which is the worst QPR team?

I was hoping someone would ask that, Connell, as I didn't have a clue either. Now, I have a very rounded explanation, thanks Ted, and am a lot wiser.

Good call, this is the one which first occurred to me. Both immense slabs of stoner rock .

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

About 10 years ago I'd only heard it used as an adjective for situations, then started seeing it more and more, particularly from the yoot on AFL forums as a signifier of elite personal sporting characteristics.

Not a fan, and seems to have developed simultaneously with the use of "versed" to describe a clash between entities, and possibly also with elaborate interpretations regarding the spelling of certain forenames.
