Bazunu will be our number one 13:30 - Jul 29 with 1515 viewsSouthamptonfan

The owners spent what was it, something like 15 million on him? We decided he wasn't good enough and brought in Ramsdale. They want to claw that money back by making him our number one. It's not Spors, it's not Will Still, it's the owners saying that he has to play. Nothing will change with these owners. I will keep saying it! It's all about SR making profits, not about the fans' enjoyment.

TBF I'm not sure I agree with this.

Wasn't he a Joe Shields signing?

Shields is no longer with the club.

We have admitted terrible mistakes made by Ankersen with Sulemana and Onuachu and moved them on.

I actually think Bazunu did well in the Prem, but he seemed to go backwards in the Championship.

Eerily similar to Manning......

I wouldn't be surprised at all if we signed a new keeper.

"We didnt decide he wasnt good enough so bought Ramsdale". He was out with a long term injury so we bought Ramsdale. Just imagine how bad last season could have been with Baz in goal.

It's a horrible thought. I remember our 1 home win was largely down to Ramsdale keeping a clean sheet with some great work. We would not have won that game with Baz in goal and I'm certain we wouldn't have beaten Derby's record either.

Didn’t he have a knee injury while on loan?

Bazunu when on loan to Standard Liege played 8 times and conceded 15 goals.

Surely one option would be to build a swap deal into the Ramsdale sale as part payment. We want a straight sale, Newcastle want a loan with an option to buy. Perhaps a good compromise would be to take Dubravka as part payment as that would be a far far better prospect than having Bazunu anywhere near the No.1 keeper’s spot for the forthcoming season.

I think he will mistakes and there are fine lines between promotion or not. Similar with Stephens in defence who is likely to cost us a few points, making the difference between promotion or not.

The only think I would say is that Bazunu did make some good saves in the last friendly we had and he is a bit more experienced now, plus he won't be instructed to do any disastrous passing out from the back.

Costs too much. Dubravka will be on a huge wage at Newcastle. Far cheaper to hope that Bazunu has improved and we can eventually sell him for a profit, rather than sit him in the reserves and 15 million wasted. It's the Sport Repunlic way.

Really! The former's always been awful for us and the latter mostly awful. £15 mil for Baz - how mental was that?

"The only think I would say is that Bazunu did make some good saves in the last friendly we had and he is a bit more experienced now, plus he won't be instructed to do any disastrous passing out from the back." Southamptonfan

Football's a ruthless business - you have to win. Playing a competitive game is very different to practice. I'd rather not give Bazunu another chance - he's had long enough and enough chances - it's a chance not worth taking.

I do try to be fair-minded, occasionally.

I thought Manning was awful in the Championship, and then surprisingly half-decent in the Prem.

Which makes me think we should now sell him.

He struggles in the Championship as it is a game with more wing-play and crosses from out wide, and his efforts to block crosses often verge on pathetic.

I thought Bazunu was up against it in the Prem. He was a rookie, and playing behind a weak defence. He did let in some goals he shouldn't have done, but I thought he was overall OKish.

I thought he then got worse in the Championship.

I do definitely think we need a new first-choice keeper.

As I have said elsewhere, there is not a cat in hell's chance we will ever make a profit on Bazunu.

We signed him for £12 million, increasing to £15 million with add-ons.

Madness.

I agree that it's highly unlikely we make a profit on him, but that's what SR want. If Bazunu never plays again and rots on the bench, we lose 15 million. No one would ever buy him or even know he exists. If he plays, he will hold some value, or by some miracle he improves and his value goes up. We could otherwise play Mccarthy, but that won't happen as he's too old to make money on. It's all about SR squeezing as much profit / some money back, as they can. I bet he will be our number one. They will try and make money on him!! That's all that matters for these owners.
