Thought it deserved its own thread.

Rohl to leave today. Transfer embargo. Players not been paid and exodus. Council refuse to issue safety certificate for the north stand so no fans allowed this season. Chansiri refusing to sell for less than £100m.

Another victory for football administration

There is a report that the Stoke home game is doubt as the security firm that provide stewards is demanding money upfront (unsurprisingly).

Looking as if MC will get his first win for Leicester. 3-0 walkover for their first game if the Wednesday players decide to strike.

Dreadful for their fans very sad situation and they will be punished by the authorities from a weak stand point while clubs like Chelsea and Man City will just laugh at them.

I can't see players wanting to risk futures? Are they even insured etc? Hell of a risk.

Max Lowe has handed in his notice at Sheff Wed. As much as I'd hate to be that vulture circling, he is an experienced Championship left back.

Speaking of LBs, Still surprised no one's picked up Harry Toffolo yet..

Didn't we try to sign him (or at least were linked to him) a couple of seasons ago? Quite a good player, I agree.

Leicester might prefer to play the game as they should do better than 3-0.

Apparently, the Wed website lists only 16 players, including Lowe (see above) and Bannan who is OOC and of interest to both Millwall and Boro.

They'd be the biggest club to go to the wall, wouldn't they? Absolute disgrace that the authorities just sit there and do nothing.

Sorry, long rambling stuff ahead...

I've seen a few Wednesday fans have been piling the criticism on the EFL and others and this "absolute disgrace" of the authorities (whoever they are) "doing nothing".

What I'd like to know is who and what are they supposed to do?

Their owner has problems but at the time he bought the club he had all the boxes ticked to pass the tests at the time as a fit and proper person with the right finances in place.

He's had an absolute mare running that club, spending money they didn't have with the expectation of promotion to 'big league' and when that failed they had points deductions and relegation and the financial and team decisions since then have been ill advised. The authorities can't step in and make those decisions for him or them, can you imagine the furore if the EFL said a team had to sell a particular player whether they liked it or not?

So, having ballsed it up are the EFL supposed to get rid of him somehow? He owns it. Do they buy the club? Obviously not. Do they provide a couple of million to pay the staff and costs to keep it running? Do me a favour, every team would want free money at the same time. The PFA are helping the players, as a unions should, but they can't subsidise the club costs to the detriment to other clubs.

The EFL are obliged to ensure that football debts are paid which isn't helping Wednesday but they are debts they shouldn't have run up.

It's hard to see how they could possibly complete a full season without a sale happening in the next couple of days or some significant injection of cash appearing. With no guarantee of them playing all 46 matches they should be kicked out. The unfairness of some teams playing more matches than others with increased risks of injury, bookings, sendings off etc really should be avoided.

It's awful for the fans, I know a few of them and do feel sorry for them, but lets be realistic about authority intervention. It ain't happening and shouldn't.

I don't get how they can impose things like FFP though if they have no powers in this case. So you can run a club to the wall but there's a limit to how much of your own money you can invest? Madness.

Sheffield Wednesday on 10:14 - Aug 2 with 2761 viewsfrancisbowles

I don't think FFP is a major factor here. There is no limit on how much an owner can invest in a club, just a limit on first team spending.

Heck no, can you imagine?

"Man's nan dies in A&E waiting for a doctor while team of Government-paid millionaires lose 3-0 to Portsmouth"

Never mind the outcry if the safety notice on the North Stand magically disappears, or if the team signs a bargain bin Russian striker from Turkey and the work permit gets waved through...
