What are your thoughts, I’m thinking it’s a tough one for Sheehan.

However -

1. Sergej Jakirović Hull City
2. Phil Parkinson, Wrexham
3. Will Still, Southampton

Your three ?

Total outsider

Kieran McKenna

I know he’s got a lot of credit in the bank for taking them up twice and signing an extension when there were bigger clubs interested.

But they’ve got an entitled fanbase who seem to think they are a genuine PL level club despite only being there a season. Being bookies favourites piles the pressure on as well.

Four wins wasn’t it ? and a -40 plus goal difference.

I think they’ll be a fairly average championship team this season. They just had an incredible season where they punched way above their weight and sustained it all the way through.

If their owners have the same mindset as their fans, McKenna could be in for a tough time.

Why do you think Sheehan may be close to it? Are you expecting a tough season? Genuine question.

It’s going to depend what our owners interpret as a tough season. They’ve ploughed a lot of money into the squad this summer and are gearing up commercially.

I’d fully expect his remit to be higher than when we were selling anyone of any value and offering our best players derisory contracts under Levein and co,

I don’t think we’ll have a tough season in terms of a relegation battle or anything like that.

After meaningless friendlies, where nothing really can be worked out, where the name of the game is experimenting, you think we are going to struggle?

Now im in the camp of seeing where we are in 2 months, if we are struggling at the bottom then i might think his job could be on the line.

Personally I don’t think he’s up to much cop. I’ve never been a fan of giving a caretaker manager the job full time. Historically it doesn’t work.
The football we played towards end of the season wasn’t great but it got the odd decent result.

I hope I’m wrong though and he smashes it. Top 10 should be the minimum aim this year

Football is a funny old game, as has been proven over the last few weeks, let alone in Newports game this week,

I tend to wait about 10-12 games in, as being an old fart , i remember the season under Bentley, we had a horrible start, and there were shouts for his head, we eneded up going up. IMo we are lacking something considering i all kicks off in a week. Unless something has been going on behind the scenes that us plebs are unaware of.

Ive said before this season this league is going to be a real tester, a toughy, it looks like so many are trying to give it a go, IMO it looks as if weve gone for promising players, weve shifted a few out, regarded as dead wood by some, but they had something to offer if needed , to me we look a bit weak on experience and players.

its going to be a tester for Sheehan thats for sure ,

i started following this club when they were on a downward spiral, like many seen the highs and lows, i dont want to kick my clogs seeing us slip again.

edit
i"ll say again , ihope im proved wrong.

I think any manager at Watford has to be a favourite knowing their owner’s history of sackings
Hull next probably , they seem to have brut for an owner too ,getting rid of Roseinior
Then probably someone out of the blue that nobody expected

Friendlies are not always meaningless and cerain things can be worked out if used properly which is why I have some "questions" about Sheehan
Why given we had Cabango and Santos injured didnt Sheehan try 19 year old Blair Mackenzie a 6 ft 2 CB with 50 senior appearances albeit in the Scottish leagues but 50 more appearances at CB than Jay Fulton a midfielder who many do not even rate as a decent player there a player shoehorned into the psotion a round peg in a square hole fits but doesnt fit the slot.
I rememebr an 18 year old Dudley Lewis being thrown into our promotion race from the old second tier and he shone but it was alongside senior pros.
Later due to issues Dudley whilst still only 21 was amongst many other young talented inexperienced players made to look ordinary and useless when we were forced to play teams made up mostly of the youngsters.

Which is why I question Sheehan and can understand why some here have "doubts" about Sheehan. I hope Im amproven wrong and I will wait untill 10 games before finalising a decision but for me I am not as confident about Sheehan yet.

It will be tougher this season for Sheehan, but he does know how to adapt and change things, whether that'll be good enough though is another question, I like him and I hope he grows into the job, he's done very well so far, its a b, b+ for me so far.

Friendlies are not training sessions, they are games that should be competitive, without the edge.

I didn't say they were training sessions, I said that they were meaningless, in the way that the result doesn't count, its getting match fitness, playing different systems and developing relationships on the pitch that count.

Yes I agree, they should be competitive though.
