Wacked 5-1 at Oxford and 6-2 at Wealdstone in last 2 games. Would have hoped for better after recent arrivals but time will tell

Think most of the recent arrivals are with the first team.

Starting 11:

Halliday, Friel, Smith, Balogun, Leahy, Tuck, Dixon-Bonner, O'Brien, Petrie, Brunson, Dillon.

Smells like a trout farm in here

One would presume it's because the best players from it are all pre-season training with the firsts?

Where is trialist B when you need him?

"Remember to listen to me but look at her. Don't get it the wrong way round. That would be hideous."

A few first team players in the Oxford team today too, notably Will Vaulks. Brunson on the other hand starting for us has just turned 16.

Oxford trying to cram minutes into the first teamers having pissd about all summer riding elephants round Indonesia.

Can't argue with any of above comments but it certainly doesn't inspire confidence.

I was looking forward to going along to the DS's first game of the season v Coventry U21s at LR next week but they've moved the game to the training ground. No reason given. The club's shoddy communication with its fans continues.

I was looking forward to seeing if their formation aligns with the first team. Might go to the training ground game.

You say that but have you seen their away kit?

Going to be a very physical side, I reckon.

That extension we (Nourry) handed to Dixon Bonner last season doesn’t seem to have been the best use of funds. What on Earth has happened there? Completely bombed out if he’s not even training with the first team. 15 months ago he was starting and assisting Chair as we beat Coventry away last game of the season.

Very strange.

We paid a fee for Friel. I expect they were hoping he’d be training with the first team by now.

And Petrie made the bench last season but not getting a chance to impress the new manager either.

Also went on loan to Sweden, which is a summer season so you'd presume he was meant to be there for 2025, and was back here within 20 minutes. Not a good team either.

Weren’t Petrie, Dillon along with Tuck involved with first team in pre season? Obviously viewed not quite ready I guess

We aren’t allowed to know of course, but you worry if another Niko’s Adventures scenario is afoot. He’s not young is he? Doesn’t really fit Nourry’s mantra for the DS. Suspect there may be a quiet mutual termination along the way this season.

From the DS, Akindileni, Sutton, Bennie, Pearman, Tuck, Esquerdinha, Salamon, Dillon, Hassan, Talla, McCann and Aoraha all had bits of game time this preseason. Not Petrie though.

He had a trial at Walsall earlier in the season which presumably didn’t go well. WLS linked him to Carlisle a couple of weeks ago.

Hopefully we'll be able to move him and Richards on this season. Shame about EDB - I wonder what's going on behind the scenes for a player who was in the first team and showing promise to drop like a stone...

Strange, I always thought EDB looked useful when he played, yet managers have not fancied him.

Dave Mc, in one of his characteristically pointed twitter replies, suggested that there was plenty of interest in him but he had an inflated view of where he thought he should be playing.

Was sent out ‘only’ until the end of June to come back and have the new manager take a look at him as it was very much a Cifuentes decision to get him out.

Couldn’t get in the team at Västerås and was back training in England long before then which obviously didn’t augur well and now JS doesn’t fancy him either.

Me too. Yet they know better.

However, the current parlous situation in which the club finds itself, I would rank him higher than many of the young pups that we have tried in a defensive midfield role during pre-season. As well as the likes of Mbengue, who some seem to believe can play there at championship level; I don't.

But is it any stranger than the Kelman extension?

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Totally disagree, as do all the professional football managers who've worked with him. Looking neat and tidy with a football is one thing. You have to be able to actually influence a match, which EDB just can't. In 38 matches from 22/23 season he's scored no goals, one assist.

In comparison Kieran Morgan last season at 18 created four big chances, one goal, two assists across 30 matches. Admittedly, like EDB in his last loan, he only won 36% of his duels but he can improve at 19 now and at least influences matches.

EDB I'm afraid just doesn't do enough: pressing, tackling, creating big chances, advancing up the pitch.

Well, the outcomes have clearly been very different! And that is what the big boys are judged on.

The Kelman extension was criticised/questioned but has undeniably worked out well for the club. Well done, Les Ferdinand.

The EDB extension was widely praised/accepted but appears to have failed (since he can’t even get a loan to a league club and isn’t even training with the first team squad). For content, Adomah has really contributed to Walsall. EBD was sent back after a trial. Kelman was very much training with the first team in prior seasons.

In the same way I praise for an unpopular decision working out, it’s only fair to apply the same level of scrutiny to another, does it not? I hadn’t seen anyone raise the EBD issue, so thought worthwhile commenting.
