Thought it deserves its own thread.

I get the economic argument.

What’s the point in having two championship standard keepers when you can only play one, especially with a third keeper (Saloman) ready to step onto the bench.

However, wasn’t impressed with him today. Hoping it’s just nerves and not something permanent.

Based on today's showing, i feel less nervous with Nardi between the sticks.

If someone can explain why Walsh is getting picked ahead of Nardi for me, that'd be lovely.

Same reason Cook isn’t starting. Under Nourry, it feels like once he wants you out that’s it, your fcked.

I mentioned it on another thread, we might need these lads back one day so he’ll need to be careful not to isolate.

I don't particularly rate Nardi for the Championship. He's very poor in the air and his shot-stopping and positioning declined as last season went on.

I'm hoping that Walsh is an improvement, but he needs a decent run of games before we can judge whether he will be an improvement or if we need to go shopping.

It's only a valid economic argument if you have two championship standard keepers. Let's hope Walsh shows improvement on today's performance, too early to write him off obviously but that wasn't great

I presume to develop him into a saleable asset.

What I don't understand is why we didn't send him out on loan last season to get some games and experience under his belt, we've set him up to fail as things stand.

I guess it was a big game for him, but he certainly didn't rise to it. Looked nervy from the off, and never commanded his defence. He deserves a run, but more matches like today's and it won't be a long one.

I'm comfortable now and accepted it will be Walsh for the forseeable. I wonder if Nardi starts v Plymouth though or we just smash through using Walsh every game for now. Also wonder what Nardi thinks, he might not want to be a number 2 at his age, if he leaves do we rely on Salamon as No. 2 or bring in someone to sit on the bench?

I get the argument about playing youngsters to let them progress and eventually sell them for big bucks but they have to be good enough in the first place. Jury very much out on Walsh.

Agree. Nardi was my player of the season, but purely based on his performances until February. He was found out by the end.

Walsh? It looks like he is playing absolutely pumped with adrenaline. He needs to calm down.
With crosses, he controlled the box well. Just calm down and take a breath. Hopefully, 10 games in he'll be OK.

He’s got to play Walsh v Plymouth surely, assuming he wants him to be the No1.

That lad needs anti nerves medicine in the form of minutes.

Otherwise that’s some huge piece of humble pie that needs to get chowed down.

I'd play him certainly, it's just always seems to be club policy to play the backup in the cup games...but yeah, 100% he needs all the minutes if he is the number 1 right now.

Nardis contract ends this season, he'll be gone next summer. I imagine Cooper will be back from Bolton to fight it out with Walsh 26/27.

Someone in the Stan Bowles stand must’ve upset Walsh because he kept booting the ball into W block

That free kick in the first half. Christ !
If he proves to be a liability, he will be dropped . Deserve a run though .

I like Nardi, and my god was he an upgrade on Begovic, but his susceptibility on crosses was a big issue.

If Walsh can improve on those, it would help the defence a great deal IMO.

I keep hearing from a very reliable source that we are signing a back up keeper. I assume this is because Nardi has a deal lined up some where. I can’t for the life of me understand what Nardi has done to be dropped. Surely the manager would have started with Nardi until he messed up and then brought in Walsh. What doesn’t add up either is Nourry when asked about the gk situation this week quite clearly said that the decision is up to the coach. I don’t believe this. The coach has clearly been told to play Walsh. No way am I having that he comes in 6 weeks ago and thinks Nardi has to be dropped. It’s the same with why Cook was dropped from being captain and starting today. The club have clearly told the coach what he has to do.

I hope Walsh can pull through this shaky start because the bits we saw of him previously were good.

The problem is, he looks rusty as hell and no wonder. We had him sat on the bench all last season learning nothing, when he should’ve been out on loan making these mistakes for someone else.

To be fair to Walsh, on today's showing he is an upgrade on Nardi when it comes to claiming crosses

Agreed. Cooper should have been number two last season and Walsh should have been on loan at Stevenage.

Yes, indeed. Walsh claimed a few balls in the air that Nardi would never have come for and I think Walsh is as good a shot stopper as Nardi. But he desperately needs to improve his kicking.

Nardi was one of our better performers early on but second half of the season his hit rate on saves was very poor.

Walsh has been inconsistent but could improve but both improved on Begovic. However my great auntie Beryl waa more consistent than the ex Chelsea backstop !!

This I feel is the most accurate response yet, from someone who knows. I am pleased Walsh is No1, but he will need some time to get used to playing week in week out. I hope he gets that time.
