Two city rugby on 16:50 - Aug 10 by union_jack | It was bad enough trying to get Swansea and Neath together as a region. Asking the Scarlet fans to support a Swansea based outfit just isn’t going to happen. |

Regions has hurt Wales demonstrably in my opinion, it should never have happened just because it worked in Ireland didn't mean that it would work here.

The regions started in 2003/04. Since then Wales have won six Six Nations titles, four Grand Slams and five Triple Crowns. That was after not winning a Grand Slam and only two titles since the 70's. Regionalisation worked very well indeed to begin with. The players who developed in that system were the backbone of success for most of the fifteen years that followed. But interest has waned.

Financially regionally rugby was a disaster, yes Wales won Grand slam mostly because we had grown world class players, it was never gonna last cause the players obviously got older, where the WRU failed was not investing in green roots and wasted money on vanity projects etc. "Regionalisation worked very well indeed to begin with. The players who developed in that system were the backbone of success for most of the fifteen years that followed." You're right, but it was the failure of the WRU to invest in grass roots players, Ireland did and that why they've been successful and continue to be successful even though they've lost world class players through age. We've had talented youngsters being pick up by English Rugby Schools/colleges and are now lost to Wales. That should never have happened it happened because the WRU had their heads in sand whilst patting themselves on their backs

I'd agree with all of that. The national academy was also a big factor in developing those players. I think a big reason for the waning interest is that there's no appetite for the URC as a competition coupled with ridiculous ko times. I think 4 regions could contiue to work perfectly well in a Anglo/Welsh or even a British league. Combined with links to the Universities and school 16-18 rugby provison or scholarhsips so that we don't lose the best players to England. Oh, and a proper audit of the WRU's books to see where all the money goes. [Post edited 11 Aug 21:07]

Great post, pity the WRU haven't got that vision, but they'll probably tell you that they haven't got the money to sustain it, they could start by thinning out the hangers in at the WRU it would be a start in cutting the waste. [Post edited 12 Aug 18:02]

Two city rugby on 00:48 - Aug 12 with 354 views | Robbie | Maybe attend an Ospreys game at The Liberty has been a fault on my behalf . Jac Morgan , AWJ , Shane Williams all great Lions amongst others from our region but for some reason I cannot be bothered to watch them a few miles down the road from me . Yet true Supporters travel halfway round the World to see these players on the field . Really think the loss of live televised Rugby is a backward step to the enthusiam . Six Nations Games are now a mass day out on the ale to many also . WRU have a big problem ahead to make the call . No doubt Cardiff Blues will not be culled . | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Two city rugby on 13:10 - Aug 14 with 85 views | theloneranger | Scarlets have announced fresh investment - with USA based firm House of Luxury - whose sports division is headed up by the former WRU chief executive, David Moffett. House of Luxury has acquired a 55 per cent controlling stake in the Scarlets, and have already assumed non-rugby operational leadership in partnership with the club’s existing board. Dan Biggar is on House of Luxury’s sports advisory board, but won’t be involved in the organisation’s day-to-day running of the Scarlets. House of Luxury will also take on the Scarlets’ existing financial debt!!
