Kone is a fantastic signing on so many levels. Ticks all the boxes for what we need as a forward currently. Current league one player and young player of the year. Has done his bit through the levels. Is on an upward trajectory. Allows Frey to become an impact sub, whenever he is fit again.
All that and with the seemingly global striker shortage, he will only need to get 10-12 goals to be valued at 10mil+ this time next year. So fantastic signing from a business standpoint. It's exactly the type of opportunistic signing we cry out for.
Yes we may have missed the boat on players like Alfie Doughty, Ronnie Edwards, etc. But credit where credit is due to the club if this gets over the line. [Post edited 11 Aug 19:06]

All this nonsense we read consistently about certain players signing for the club and ad infinitum articles from click bait sites daily and then now if this happens , would be second WoW signing in same way Burrell only came to our attention when he was practically already through the door and into the building.
Wouldn't surprise me if the club are spreading fake news to the regular "reputable not" signings for our supposed done deals on lesser mortals that are usurped like this...

Regarding this potential signing, its only on the predictable sites that simply guess. Until its on WestLondonSport or one of the daily newspapers, i generally ignore these as they are rarely correct. | |

Easy to explain. Last January Wycombe were very much in the hunt for the second promotion place and keeping Kone was a risk they would have thought worth taking as his goals could very much have helped them to promotion with the added benefits of much higher income from TV and gate receipts. The fact is now he is in the last year of his contract, like Kelman so they need to cash in now to avoid walking away, or receiving a much lower compensation payment as he is under 24 (like Poku who could us a fraction of his worth compared to if he was still contracted to Posh). Kelman obviously made it clear that he wasn’t going to sign a new contract so getting £3million for someone who cost the club £250k was great business for the club especially in these days of FFP, whereby the club can put all that money against FFP and if we sign Kone for a similar amount and assuming it’s a five year contract the annual amortised cost to the club is £600K on a £3million purchase price. And that gives us time to hopefully develop him to a level where we can get a much larger fee in the future. | |
