So we’re saying Celar, Chair, Madsen, Cook, Morrison, Field, Mbuegne couldn’t even manage a few minutes or to travel and help this crèche out?
It’s an absolute and utter stain on the clubs history for me.
You’ve got 16 and 17 year olds coming on for 10 mins.
It will have cost certain people £150 plus half a days work to attend that tonight.

For me the squad tonight is an absolute insult.

I know others will say it’s great the kids got their chance but come on.
The team sheet should be an embarrassment to the club, the fitness department and of concern to the short term future of the club.
If that’s what we have in reserve then Nourry Nursery is only heading in one direction

As I've repeatedly pointed out, players in the 70s, for example, played as many, if not more, much more physically arduous games on often shitty pitches, without any kind of 'rotation'.

In most professional sports players in the 70s operated on a different scale of fitness to those today. Like racehorses professional athletes nowadays are a different kind of physical animal from their predecessors. For example their body-fat index is far lower, which adds speed and dexterity at the cost of fragility. Which in turn leads to more injuries and, not infrequently, shorter careers. This, in turn, necessitates larger squads for their employers and greater turnover.

There’s all of that plus they know that there are 5 subs so they can have a rest if required. Not all of them are playing 90 mins per game, even if available, 2-3 times per week.

I wonder how different it would be if the number of subs was reduced. Not advocating that it should be given how many injuries we have but I do think the training, conditioning and fitness levels would probably improve significantly.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

It's not down to Nourry, ffs - it's Williams, and the manager/coaching staff. There's something seriously amiss at the club when it comes to pre-season training and 'loading'.

I know you like Nourry because he talks clever and appears to be at your intellectual level, but he is in charge, all these people report to him, he's hired them all, he dictates strategy, so yes it is entirely down to him.

It's insulting. I wasn't at the game last night but had I taken time off work and spent money on tickets and travelling down there, I would be contacting the club this morning and asking for a refund. To field a side like that was utterly disrespectful to the supporters and the competition. And to have a bench like that with a bunch of kids with no first team appearances between them... it's just not on.

Still, if it helps us achieve a 16th place finish it'll all have been worth it...

This club!

It is good to see the youngsters get a chance in the First Team.

However, all of them, all at once? They're supposed to get a chance in the First Team, not instead of it.

I'm not upset with the young players here. They didn't select themselves. The decision to select that side...? That is questionable, at best.

I think the reason for my cheesed-offedness is compounded by the 2-0 lead being chalked off when we needed someone to just take a breath and settle the ship. Nardi, as captain, was never the voice to do that and his approach to crosses was so pant-shittingly bad it made Begovic look like Gigi Buffon.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

Playing games is the best for fitness. We get told that again and again,

So why leave the first team, full of people blowing out of their a**es collectively after 60 minutes on Saturday at home?

ARRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

Exactly this.

Would Steve Cook getting 45 into his legs second half been a positive or negative? Gotta be a positive for me.

Dembele went down with cramp on Saturday - screams of needing to build up to match fitness.

And on and on and on.

The other thing that others have put far better than me is what really have those kids learned?
Surely they'd learn far, far, far more travelling WITH a smattering of Senior Pro's and seeing how they prepare, hold themselves, conduct themselves on the pitch and react to certain in game situations.

Not watched JS post match yet but he's building himself a mountain to climb from what I've read here.

It is down to Nourry in that he sets the club policy, which appears to include that the medical staff dictate who can/can't play. The coaching staff are employed to follow that policy & I believe is what they did yesterday.

It is beyond me though, as to why all of the subs on Saturday couldn't have started the match last night.

No it hasn't! It's much more the case that professional expectations have been dialled down, and too many fans have gullibly sucked it up. As I've repeatedly pointed out, players in the 70s, for example, played as many, if not more, much more physically arduous games on often shitty pitches, without any kind of 'rotation'. Modern players are incredibly over-protected, which is why the likes of living-stealers like Taylor Richards are becoming more and more commonplace.

Read Pat Nevin's biography to learn about how a real professional operated at the peak of his profession (who sometimes played games on consecutive days) and how passionately fit he was. Too many modern players are fakers, and there's an increading number of people (including some writers) who prop them up with their own facile apologetics.
[Post edited 13 Aug 1:20]

And as I've repeatedly replied to you, a lot of those players had injections before every match so that they could play. They then suffered after retiring because their body was f****d.

Are modern players over protected? I think they probably are.

Were players of earlier generations under protected? Definitely!

The problem is had they held on to win we would probably be sitting here writing about how good some of the kids were but it was men against boys, quite literally, and as such, pretty unfair on the paying, travelling supporters.

I watched the game with my brother and said to him it was only luck that QPR were winning and only a matter of when the inexperienced kids would be overcome. It was an insult to the travelling fans and the club in general that the powers that be sent the development squad down to play a Plymouth side that last season was in the Championship.

An utter disgrace to throw away a cup competition that with gate receipts, tv revenue and potential prize money for each round could have generated much needed funding for the club.

Sure, it's the only cup we've ever won, but we have little to no chance of winning it again as the competition is now gerrymandered to placate the big/rich teams..

We get 3-4k for home draws these days, so most fans don't take it seriously any more either.

What did we learn from it? We already knew Nardi's strengths and weaknesses and he displayed them again. Smith and Wilkie looked promising, Some FT squad players got 90 minutes, some showed they need to move on loan (or perm).

It was disrespectful.
To Plymouth
To the competition
To the senior players not involved
To the few seniors who had to child mind the creche
To the youngsters involved who were hu g out to dry

Embarrassing as usual
How many cup ties have we tossed away down the years with Micky mouse reserve teams
We may as well not bothered, that team last night screamed “ behind closed door friendly “

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Out of interest what kind of speed were you running those marathons at? Big difference between running 26 miles in 3 to 3.5 hours compared to plodding round in 4 to 4.5 hours. I just think it’s been fairly well proven that most footballers struggle playing three games a week in the modern game which is why the clubs with more means and bigger squads fair better at it.

I ran 8 marathons. My PB is 3:24 and my slowest was 3:49. Fitness is incremental and an ongoing commitment to personal growth which comes down to mental application and toughness. A lot of modern players seem to think running is a chore but I saw it the other way round. I ran more to make me a better footballer and more useful team mate (centre midfield). At the risk of sounding like a silly old git, I would suggest it comes down to attitude.

Poll: Where will we finish up next season?

I think it is disrespectful and embarrassing that the usual suspects jump to blame Nourry for this when team selection is nothing to do with him.Every thread now contains criticism of him. This is now bordering on obsession with everything being his fault. Might be time to seek help.
