A steady yet not spectacular performance….look sharper up the front as long as they get the service.

Well organised at the back ,keeper looks decent 2 footed and came to punch the ball at one point.

Not sure if Barlow is in the right position..wonder if he’d be more effective elsewhere he certainly has the ability.

Plenty to be optimistic about in these v early days

Wasn’t it Robson in goal at home to Halifax? Made a great save from a Hoti free kick?

Thought the same about Barlow

More effective playing behind the front two

Thought the Gilmour/East combo our weak link and allowed Alty to dominate until our equaliser. Mentioned earlier about how that period felt like the same as last season, almost as if JM was giving last season's players chance to perform before introducing any changes

I'd like to see Gilmour/Pettit with Barlow in front, and the option of Hendo coming off the bench the last quarter

Barlow could be excellent in that role behind a front two, although he did excel numerous times last season in the role he’s playing at the moment. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, we are still to try a midfield three and a front two since reverting to wingbacks.

East would be much more productive in that position too, as has been noted previously. At some point, we have to try it.

We seemed a litttle tentative at the start and then they scored and we woke up a bit, and began to get stuck in a bit more , especially in midfield where they dominated using their size and strength... sometimes you have to win the physical battle before you can play football, as Allarakia found out when he just didnt get tight enough to their right winger and then redeemed himself with a screamer...we improved when Gilmour started to battle and Barlow started to carry the ball more. Mani had 2 or 3 half chances and successfully tied up Sassi at the back. Our second goal confirmed Allarakia's attacking credentials and the "if you dont shoot you wont score" mantra.
Pritchard's arrival helped to stem the Altrincham reply with some timely interceptions and some good old-fashioned " ratting" in midfield....a good substitution and well timed.
Generally a decent day at the office for all concerned and a platform for further understandings and partnerships to be developed.. roll on Wednesday...

Oh, and to the security man on the Sandy turnstiles, searching a pensioner in the " gentlemans tackle" area is not the way to win friends and influence people. I may have wear my old cricket box on Wednesday if this is the standard we are to expect, mind you I haven't been groped in public for the better part of half a century, perhaps I should be paying extra? I wonder what his reaction will be if I bring a bag of Mint Imperials and a Toblerone?

Excellent post match interview with Kyron Gordon. In a squad full of young fellas we can really identify with he's a standout for me, love his consistency on the pitch and always think he comes across great on camera. High standards leadership emerging more and more throughout the team, it's great to see.

Yeah, that’s a great interview. Good insight into how things are within the squad too.

There have been plenty of mentions about the atmosphere around the club as well, the support all over the ground was really good today as well.

Returning briefly to the subject of goalkeepers I thought there was an interesting comparison between the two keepers this afternoon.
Whatmuff looked in control throughout whereas his opposite number (five years older at 22 and on loan from Bolton) seemed to me to become rattled as the game progressed.
I noticed though that every time that Mani D chased down a back pass he seemed to shout or scream something; not quite sure if that had an unsettling effect!

Kyron Gordon was magnificent today. He usually is. We have one quality player there.
His interview is excellent also.
We played a good Alty side today who will cause most of this division problems.
They had the ref in their favour.
Jason Taylor sent off for a minor transgression of holding a ball too long in a game where multi-ball was available, but vicious 2 footed challenges by Alty only get a yellow. Go figure.
Great to see the desire and attitude, bravery and determination from Dale, something lacking in recent years when we could fold. Heads didn't drop when one down. Thoughtful substitutions too, instead of the "lets defend a lead in a manner that rarely works" tactic. Signs of a lesson learned.
Atmosphere has been mentioned in another post. The Sandy was different today without the younger voices but it was excellent in old school volume and getting stuck into unpopular opponents. Hutchinson and (derisive snort) Sassi got some stick and were clearly rattled. Heh.
An exciting, nervy but very impressive and improved game to be at. 2 wins from 2 is the perfect league start. Nice one Jim.

Good win but I don’t think we have reached our best yet, once that happen we will have one hell of a side UTD

I remember Dean Windass would do this - shout at the keeper as he closed them down. We've needed a striker who is an absolute horror to play against for a long time. One that knows all the tricks and dark arts. And where the goal is. Mani D is all of that and I love it.

Good interview with Phil Parkinson - very complimentary to us although I don't agree with his accusation that Mani 'threw punches' - there was a bit of pushing and shoving and Sassi was as much to blame. His thoughts on our improvements from last season are interesting - we can all see Mani is a step up from Kairo.

Good for them but we have better players now especially in Mani. Mitchell needed tens of chances to get a breakthrough and couldn't head the ball. Mani is a few levels above. Very pleased with how the players reacted to going one down and later on hanging on and battling near the end today. Very optimistic after seeing that performance

I think the last time we won our opening 2 league games was 99/00 under Steve Parkin! Our 3rd game was that 3-0 away win at York! 😲

Decent crowd numbers, they brought 430, so we had about 2500. It will be interesting how Project 5000 will impact this season.
Their first goal scored at Spotland (COA) since 1965, and what a cracker. It certainly fired us into action. They were a good team and quite dirty, picking up 5 yellow cards for the second time this season. A lucky deflection proved to be the decider but we earned that bit of luck. Good to see Tutonda block a cross late in the game. This typified the added steel in the team which was lacking last season.
Oh, and one last point...how can our goalkeeper, from one of the best teams on the planet not kick a long ball with accuracy...I am still scratching my head !!!!!!!!
