Decent crowd numbers, they brought 430, so we had about 2500. It will be interesting how Project 5000 will impact this season.
Their first goal scored at Spotland (COA) since 1965, and what a cracker. It certainly fired us into action. They were a good team and quite dirty, picking up 5 yellow cards for the second time this season. A lucky deflection proved to be the decider but we earned that bit of luck. Good to see Tutonda block a cross late in the game. This typified the added steel in the team which was lacking last season.
Oh, and one last point...how can our goalkeeper, from one of the best teams on the planet not kick a long ball with accuracy...I am still scratching my head !!!!!!!!

Excellent 3 points whilst not at our very best. Mani (9) up top just allows many more option than we had last season. Mani allows Rodney to recieve the ball, turn and drive.. the pair must be very difficult to play against.... Then we have another absolute unit in Levi Amantchi to use when the game situation requires.

Whatmuff assured for a 17 year old... Big lad and looks 25 no concerns with him..

Would like to see more of Petit.. possibly a start on Wednesday v Gateshead.

Alty won the midfield battle in the first half so that is one for coaches to look back on, I like the resilience shown to get back level before HT after going 0-1 down.

It is usually said there is no need to judge the team or its league position until 8-10 games in.. Well if we can keep winning (by any means) it will be a damn site easier to judge if we can be sitting pretty in the top 5.

Mentioned last year was the need to score more goals.. 2 per game average gives Dale the very best chance of a top 2 finish... 4 goals in the opening 2 games and we have 2 wins and 6 points so that thought process kind of plays out.

Three worthy non player mentions..

The stewards all were friendly enough and seemed to get the balance right between safety and common sense..

The singing section did a great job. The atmosphere was very good in the stand and the opening day passed without any issues.

Chicken Balti pies are excellent.

Onwards to Wednesday night.. Up the Dale..

I think the last time we won our opening 2 league games was 99/00 under Steve Parkin! Our 3rd game was that 3-0 away win at York! 😲

2015/16

Peterborough at home, Blackpool away, both 2-0

A wise man would be able to self-analyse and perhaps understand.

Cheers 👍.
Forgot about that one, for all the promotions,play-offs and great seasons under Hilly we tended to start quite slowly.

Good if unspectacular performance against a tough Altringham team. On another day with another referee we could have had 3 or 4 goals.

As stated Mani makes a huge difference and will bring out the best in other players. Good partnerships are starting to develop all over the pitch and we have genuine strength in depth. EEL's captaincy has been excellent so far this season and other leaders are emerging.

Early days but other results (especially Boreham Wood) suggest that the division could be a bit tighter than envisaged. Gateshead on Wednesday will be a good barometer.

UTD.

A battling performance against very worthy opponents. I think we would have struggled to see that game out last season, we showed some resiliance in the later stages of the game. Credit to McNulty for managing the substitutions also, it must be easier for him when you have the likes of Pritchard on the bench. He put in a great cameo. Watmuff also deserves a mention, he played his part with two late saves to secure the points.
Excellent three points with plenty of improvement still to come. The atmosphere in the Smith Metal Stand was very good with the singing section in place and those responsible for the flags around the stadium have really enhanced the matchday experience. Finally, the stewards are a big upgrade on what we've been used to and the new turnstile entry system seemed to be working well.

Totally agree with all your comments. Everything seemed much more professional
The atmosphere today was brilliant. It is always so much more enjoyable to watch a winning team with the supporters fully behind them. Long may it continue.

Kudos to TA. Not in the team on day 1, with a new recruit in his place. But what a strong statement he made on Saturday. That mentality must really have delighted Jim. Others who are not selected need to have the same attitude, if they do it will make a bid difference to our season.

Wing back is probably the most physically demanding position on the pitch so there will be plenty of rotation in that role and Allarakiha did not play the full game himself.

Players who are not currently playing need to make the most of their opportunites and make it difficult for them to be dropped. Injuries, suspensions and the vagaries of form will mean that we will need every player.

Was certainly a good shout from Jim to put Taz in from the start given he might have been tempted to stick with the same winning team. I expect Pritchard may start at left wing back in more of the away games. Offers better cover defensively but less going forward.

It'll be interesting to see if there is much rotation for the Gateshead game on Wednesday given there is then the 2 games over bank holiday. Expect the squad will be utilised a fair bit given there is quality ready to come in in most positions.

Has crossed my mind that McNulty might prefer TA at home and Pritchard away as the starter. I was impressed with his denfensive contribution when I was at Boreham. Either way it’s a position where we don’t lack talent.

Too early to put too much weight into any predictions but I wouldn’t be surprised if Pritchard becomes our best signing of the summer. Seems a very intelligent footballer, not afraid to put himself about and incredibly versatile.

I'm really surprised Oldham let him go. We can't be paying him any more in wages? He was certainly one of their stand out players in the 3 play off games. Their loss is certainly our gain.
