In the letter of the law, it certainly was and was given by the ref.

It's certainly a penalty this year - Derby v Cov and Lincoln v Plymouth both had similar ones given this weekend.

Wasn’t Madsens best game in a more advanced role in a midfield 3 with 2 more defensive midfielders alongside him? If we have to play him, would have thought he needs to play there than 1 of a midfield 2.

against sunderland he played there but lets be honest Sunderland couldnt care less if he was in goal that afternoon , minds firmly on play offs the following week , they was so bad even kolli made two tackles that afternoon late on, hes had way more chances †han a lot of players would get , i feel sorry for him hes been brought in to do a job he just cant do , thats not down to him its who decided we can make this this pasing midfeild player who can tackle or even at time track back occasionally , its just not his game

The midfield needs bolstering for away games. That's when one of Dembele, Poku or Chair could be rotated. Madsen is not doing what we need in midfield so should go and a more versatile player bought in or ideally a FB freeing up Vale and Morgan.

You'd certainly like to see Madsen running onto the chance that Esquerdinha created on the edge of the box, rather than Field. Surely has to be Varane and Field as the two DMFs and Morgan, Madsen or possibly Vale as the third MF if we can ever get them all fit. Even that doesn't sound great though so hopefully another signing or two in the pipeline.

Well Norf and many other posters who want to blame Madsen for everything we fail at......I have watched the first 45 minutes. It was a very average team performance, we defended so poorly for both goals (Madsen was not in any way at fault for either), Madsen was slow to start but got into the game as the game progressed rarely giving the ball away (although they were basic passes), he held his right centre defensive midfield very well, did not make many tackles (expected) but was always, positionally, in good positions ensuring Watford had something to think about, he made a couple of physical challenges (shock for some), he was last man on one occasion and did fine to stop/delay the breakaway attack, he won a header from a Chair free kick in the oppo box (which most others did not), he gave the ball away on 47 minutes when he misplaced a pass wide to Smyth but on 48 minutes, being well positioned as Centre Right Midfield, he broke up play which led to our goal.

So, in summary (and I will watch the 2nd half some time), he was no worse or better than many of the players and I fail to see why he gets so much grief from posters. You are not going to get crunching tackles, running around the pitch like a headless chicken, smashing players around from Madsen, he has culture.

Madsen has bollox the size of grape pips. The bloke is dogshĩt. Starting a game with him as part of 2 man midfield is the same as surrendering the three points before a ball is kicked.

Salvador Dali was quite cultured. Wouldn’t want him in our midfield engine room either. I’m aghast anyone is still defending this bloke. Whether he’s good or bad at football he is about as far from a Championship midfielder as I have ever seen and we generally lose any midfield battle he’s involved in.

Awful signing. Cash burned. Get him replaced ASAP because he’s so clearly not the answer and I’m a bit fed up with watching our midfield part like Danny Devito’s hair at the mere sight of an opposition attack.

Madsen started in 21 Championship matches last season......we won 7, drew 7 and lost 8.

Don’t you think if we play him, he’s better off in more advanced of midfield 3? I think especially away from home, we need to have a bit more bite in midfield.

Most of those weren’t in central midfield because our last manager realised he was a complete and utter jizz rag in there for us and moved him further up the pitch where he could still let the game pass him by but do marginally less damage.

Centre / Defensive Right Midfield heh,

In no man's land for both goals,

If you just watch him in those two moments you should see enough,

Bloke needs a mobility scooter, heart of a mouse, just woeful.

Maybe James........I don't know.

I just think that he is nowhere as near bad as many are saying. I watched the Watford game and expected for him to be nowhere to be seen, giving the ball away, not tracking back and so on but I never saw that whatsoever, I saw a controlled first 45 minutes, slow start, could have got forward a bit more (but I don't know what his instructions were because Field got forward and you cannot have both of them) no blame on the conceded goals, involved early on in our goal, pretty steady.

Just do not understand but Jack Colback got pelters on this MB and he was a big player for us when he played.

That's quite a startling comparison as it implies that neither are really first choices.

I think the Madsen haters will get their wish and Morgan will switch to CM once Dunne is back.
For the Sam Field lovers, well it's him or Varane.
Worse case scenario is it reverts to that God awful Varane/Field partnership from last season.

Have a look at Dykes 100 yard sprint for the match winner on Saturday, more desire in his little toe than Madsen has in his 6ft4inches,

Don't bother watching the 2nd Half from our game, Varane was everything Madsen wasn't, forget the running, tackling, it was just showing for the ball,

Re-watch Madsen plodding around for our two goals, until you see what we all see.
