Madsen and Field midfield on 22:00 - Aug 18 by ParkRoyalR | Have a look at Dykes 100 yard sprint for the match winner on Saturday, more desire in his little toe than Madsen has in his 6ft4inches, Don't bother watching the 2nd Half from our game, Varane was everything Madsen wasn't, forget the running, tackling, it was just showing for the ball, Re-watch Madsen plodding around for our two goals, until you see what we all see. |
You can’t compare Varane and Madsen, they are completely different players. I’m not a Madsen fan but I do think we need to find a role for him if we can’t loan him out or sell him. Therefore maybe cover for Chair in the attacking mid role

Madsen and Field midfield on 21:52 - Aug 18 by gazza1 | So the Manager is to blame then!!!!! Rubbish. |
The current manager doesn’t have much choice but to select the coward of Copenhagen due to the farcical injury and squad balance situations. Don’t think you’ll want to hear criticism at the people responsible for those two things either though.

You can compare them. They both have been selected in central midfield. One gets involved, takes the ball and tries to give it to another player in a hooped shirt. The other lollops about like an injured giraffe trying desperately hard to find hiding places as often as physically possible. There you go; they’re compared.

Very silly......they are very different midfielders, just like Frey and Burrell or Kelman who I know has left us are very different forwards!!! [Post edited 18 Aug 22:28]

They are very different midfielders. One is effective and relevant, Madsen is neither.

I cannot remember where he played in midfield but generally Madsen in playing central, whether that is defensive or attacking depends on who else played.. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Well I can. Cifuentes basically got the hump with him shirking and surrendering in central midfield and started to play him higher up the pitch as the season progressed. Stephan will do exactly the same because he is a billion miles away from being able to contribute to a two man midfield in the Championship. He’s marginally better playing further forward. £3m for our 6th choice attacking midfielder. 7th if Saito comes back. Triffic.

if he does lump on cov to be 3 nil up by half time . id hope its varanne and field in the middle sat if its not then the coach isnt picking the side , nobody would send madson out again after last sats performance esp against coventry who as usual are strong in midfield again

I'd play Madsen in a 3 with Field and Varane and move Chair to the left unless Poku's back in which case Madsen would be on the bench. Certain games, like the Preston home game, can see a use for Madsen playing deeper too.

hes alreayd said he sees chair as his number 10 and as we saw sat when he moved chair to the wing it killed us going forward as there no link up between the midfiled and the attackers. if dunne is back sat and got a feeling he wont be , id play field and varanne infront of the back four and morgan as the roving midfield player getting forward . madson only showed in the first half of the preston game ,second half he barely touched the ball .

Things won’t always come off for Chair because he tries things that aren’t easy but get us closer to scoring an actual goal. Maybe it’s a confidence thing but when Madsen does find himself in a good attacking position seems to play the safe ball and give someone else the responsibility far too often which isn’t really ideal when your role is to be a creative player. 10, 8, 6 or whatever, you have to be brave as a footballer which means different things in different positions and he just isn’t. There’s no way of sugar coating it and pretending there’s some combination of other players that will make him anything better than ok even on a good day.

Madsen and Field midfield on 21:51 - Aug 18 by gazza1 | Maybe James........I don't know. I just think that he is nowhere as near bad as many are saying. I watched the Watford game and expected for him to be nowhere to be seen, giving the ball away, not tracking back and so on but I never saw that whatsoever, I saw a controlled first 45 minutes, slow start, could have got forward a bit more (but I don't know what his instructions were because Field got forward and you cannot have both of them) no blame on the conceded goals, involved early on in our goal, pretty steady. Just do not understand but Jack Colback got pelters on this MB and he was a big player for us when he played. |
I watched the full 90 minutes last night. A great hit from Morgan for our goal but otherwise our finishing was very poor as was our defensive work on their goals and on a few other occasions. The 2 backs, Cook and Smith were playing out of position and it showed. I thought Madsen was generally tidy in midfield and intercepted a Watford pass then played it forward to Dembele at the start of the move for our goal. Looked to me like he tired a bit 2nd half but as he missed most of pre-season that's not surprising. I do think Madsen is more effective playing further forward as he was mostly at the end of last season.

"I do think Madsen is more effective playing further forward as he was mostly at the end of last season." I agree but that's not really saying much as he's utterly anonymous in DM or CM.

If other players are available and in better form, Madsen should start on the bench.
Madsen and Field midfield on 14:49 - Aug 23 with 246 views | Northolt_Rs | Madsen benched so I can’t blame him for this fkn shambles. Walsh is awful and yet Nardi is sitting on the bench. Don’t panic, it’s all part of Nourry’s ‘project’…. [Post edited 23 Aug 16:06]
