Why does he keep cramping up ? I find this very strange in a professional footballer.

Much like George Weah, he’s actually in his 70s and it’s early onset night cramps that occur around 4:30pm every day.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Ask Ben Williams, who is seemingly so good we’ve let him rule the roost for the last couple of seasons… despite our injury and fitness record being nothing short of a disgrace

See the discussion on pre-season and squad fitness.

It's be nice if our club interviewer actually grew a pair and asked this kind of question post-match on our behalf. Mind you, that would make football/life more real and authentic, which would never sell.

Hot weather driving a lack of hydration and lack of electrolytes. Some peoples metabolisms can cope better than others. Energy sachets and water bottles help but there are limits. I expect it'll stop happening in a months time.

I get the science but why is it happening to our players and so early in the season? I watched a few championship matches and other teams just appear fitter and better prepared for the new campaign.

Because he's a growing boy and needs to eat his greens and get to sleep nice and early

Shit but local

tbf this has been covered elsewhere the current trend in football is for high fast attacking press that means there are more sprints and quick movements, less recovery rather than jogging back to sit in a mid or low block. Chair is a Duracell bunny as is Morgan both have a very high natural level of fitness. Not everyone is born like that Dembele clearly not, but Paul Smyth for example often had cramp in the 70th and 80th minutes last season

It's obvious. He's a Scot and therefore cannot cope when the weather is above 15 degrees.

Professional athletes should not be getting cramp, especially not over a normal 90 mins. In these days of modern sports science, and considering we now seem to have a VAST team of "Performance" staff at the club, this is a ridiculous situation.

I agree! Because they are pro athletes, it's even more reason why they shouldn't be cramping up.

I've a mate who played rugby league professionally. Even 20 odd years ago, the waterboy would run on and each player's water bottle was tailored to the player's performance need and own physiology. Tasted dreadful by all accounts, but did the job. I wonder if we're as advanced?

When I've done endurance events, I'd supplement commercial isotonic drinks with salt from just over the halfway point and never once had cramp. Now, if I can fathom this out for me, then I hope QPR and SIS, our official sports nutrition partner, are looking at Dembele to isolate and address what unique pre-, in-, and post-game hydration/nutrition he needs.

Has he always had this issue or is it a QPR thing?
