Coventry City 7 Queens Park Rangers 1 – Report 02:50 - Aug 25 with 10508 viewsNorthernr

Look, I'm obviously struggling with QPR at the moment.

I'm also struggling with the amount of anonymous accounts all weirdly parroting the same lines and branding honest home and away QPR fans like me "dinosaurs" "a cancer on the club" "mentally ill" "old farts".

I went and did something else with my weekend this week, because I wondered if yesterday might go as it did and I couldn't face it. Sadly I was right.

Jamie Perry is half my age, does every game home and away, and is the most lovely, placid, good natured boy you could wish to meet. I gave the match report to him and, look, if he feels like this, if Jamie Perry feels like this...

Thank you, Jamie, for filling in this week...

Hi Clive,

It's easy to say this from the other side of the planet, I don't have to sit through the week-in week-out drama, broken promises, rising hope only to be dashed etc., but none of this is worth breaking yourself, bodily or between the ears.

If there is anyone who has earned the right to step away it's you; I appreciate you aren't seeking permission from people you've never met, but for what it's worth, you have it.

I hope a break gives you a chance to refresh, gain perspective and hopefully find joy again the bits you love about Rangers. You've written so beautifully about all the things that surround the game and what they mean to you, perhaps these are what will bring you back again.

All of the above is written with a thought that you might be broken (finally) and walk away from this forum that I love. I hope it doesn't come to that, but if that's what you need to do, I'm sure you'd do it with the thanks of all you've gathered here over the years.

All the best and take care of yourself.

Echo those sentiments.

I've gone from missing it to being glad I'm a long way away and not having to live with the constant daily focus on football, the BS from fans of other clubs etc. I look at the constant taunting that goes on in grounds now and it seems so weird and alien to me these days. Maybe I've been in the southern hemisphere too long!

And that's just the normal side of it, social media makes it many, many times worse. Bad enough having the usual suspects taking the piss, but when the 'digital creator' idiots from places like Nigeria (all massive, decades long Chelsea fans obvs, donated to save the bridge etc) try to join in, well just take your fake plastic pretend support and fcuk off.

Well done Jamie for an excellent match report. You probably had to sit through the highlights of the match to write that at least once, and you have my sympathies.

For the eagle eyed amongst us, Jamie’s two match reports are 3-0 loss away to Swansea on Boxing Day and now a 7-1 loss at Coventry here. I’m ITK here and he’s next up for Wrexham away next month if you all want to ensure you’re somewhere else for that inevitable shellacking…

Can we not knock it?

I’m in the same boat, Clive

I haven’t been to an away game since before covid. I regularly miss home games. I didn’t follow the off-season at all and learnt in the stadium v Preston that paal had left the team, etc. it was a pleasant summer of not being plugged in to qpr

I have been very active on this forum recently bc it is an outlet for my sheer hatred of the current administration and my feeling of helplessness around the incompetence of the owners. I am struggling to understand how this board backed this narcissist over cituentes who was a good manager and a good man too.

Putting aside the fact that he’s incompetent, Nourry is just a bad human being. Look at the pointless shots he took at cifuentes re injuries at the fans forum, when management is accountable for Ben Williams living/working remotely. Look at the little nuggets we put into club statements that make him look good (ie, suggesting we got a fee for cifuentes in the statement that he left), that make others look bad (the nuggets we put in abt past administrations when cannon left club) or that take us fans for being stupid (that he unlocked additional headroom for spending and bringing in Hayden by loaning our Deon woodman to some 9th division squad). The fact that he only appears when we win but is not accountable to fans when things go wrong. He’s just not a good person

I watched all 90 mins of the Coventry game from holiday w my wife in crete. There was a sliver of me that hoped we lost 10-0. There’s a part of me that hopes we lose 10-0 to charlton- bc I feel like the only thing that’ll make a change is some extreme results. Winning next weekend mihht paper over some obvious cracks

I just wanted to add to the solidarity emanating from Oz, I'm more of a lurker on LFW but it's clear the vast majority apreciate your considerable efforts. Please look after yourself first and foremost.

it's very easy to start hating football when you've supported QPR for many, many years... but there are a few things that are still great about our club ... hang in there Clive, you are really appreciated.

Hope you had a fantastic weekend.

Top, top writing Jamie.

Think there are way more of us who appreciate your work Clive than there are those idiots out there... but the idiots sadly tend to be louder. Take care of yourself.

Agree with every word of the report and your post. This feels like a real low point. I remember I stopped my season ticket for a year 20 plus years ago as it was affecting my whole life getting upset about things at the time - I was back a year later but it helped me get it in perspective. I have mostly stopped posting as it is too reminiscent of the Paladini period at the moment with drummer boy replaced by faceless accounts on x - doesn’t help that the wider world is going to the dogs atm. As for mr french football agent the less said the better.

Ruben you are a disgrace for allowing this to develop. Time for the grownups to step in .

Pride. A hunger for honours. A winning mentality.
3 very important things this club has lacked for decades now.
Plymouth away in the cup, that squad we took there, that inevitable result we got there, somebody who justified it then, please justify it now 2, 3, weeks down the line.
I will eat this device I'm writing on, if somebody can.

Clive, if you're reading this thread (and you probably shouldn't be), you'll see that we think your health is more important than LFW or QPR. Things at this club are probably going to get worse - and for some while - before they get better and you do not need that in your life.

Go fishing, fly a kite, ramble in the countryside, sit on a beach. Anything but QPR right now. Be good to yourself.

Clive keep your strength and keep the faith in us, because we are QPR. You are brilliant at what you do and we need you on top form so take your time, keep your council, look after yourself.

And golf Clive, golf. Every 18 holes completed is a life lesson.

As for Dinosaur, old fart. Revel in it. Means you’ve been round the block, seen it all. Laugh at all the bollocks they come out with. That’s what I do.

Anyway, keep well.

Thanks Clive (and Jamie). I can barely bring myself to read it so to write it whilst being roundly abused must be a bundle of laughs. The supporters deserve better and hopefully the owners have a plan in place the same way they would for a manager change, admittedly with a bit of a wider scope. This will obviously not be tolerated for much longer.

Superb Jamie . We lasted 70 minutes and f***ed off . Credit to you and the rest Jamie , for sticking it out . My mental health couldn’t take the last 20 minutes.
It’s as if Norf knew what was coming . We did after 10 minutes , the signs were clear and it was no surprise that we got walloped.
I think Saito he’s great but I’d using our limited money on central midfielder who can run a game not another tiny winger. Failing that get Hayden in .
Hayden in , Nourry out .

Great report Jamie, thank you. It’s a shame you had to sit through that and weren’t able to deliver a positive report.

I was at WBA for the 7-1, but don’t remember it feeling as bad as this, does feel like a new low?

Clive - try not to worry about the things you can’t control (QPR) and focus on the things you can such as your great writing.

We’ve all been QPR’d, hopefully this will be a wake up call.

I’m on a family holiday in Greece in an all inclusive resort and you have all the usual man u, man city, barca etc shirts (though interestingly no Ronaldo/Saudi shirts that were so prevalent the last couple of years) and I've seen at least three different kids in Birmingham shirts and i swear one of the families is French.
This is where we are today… people ‘supporting’ teams because of tiktok, youtube, Netflix and so on. The power of social media.

I know we sort of floated with glamour 10+ years ago, and still managed to fk that up, but I really don’t want QPR to be that kind of club but it worries me the likes of Nourry are the sort of person that totally believes and is immersed in that world. A world i despise, a world i fear my kids will go into.

Its easier to destroy than build and the toxicity on social media is appalling. It’s seeped onto here and i think everyone has done a great job at keeping it at arms length but is has seemed to have got worse the last few years.
I don’t post as much as i used to because it’s exhausting and futile.
