Coventry City 7 Queens Park Rangers 1 – Report 02:50 - Aug 25 with 10984 viewsNorthernr

Look, I'm obviously struggling with QPR at the moment.

I'm also struggling with the amount of anonymous accounts all weirdly parroting the same lines and branding honest home and away QPR fans like me "dinosaurs" "a cancer on the club" "mentally ill" "old farts".

I went and did something else with my weekend this week, because I wondered if yesterday might go as it did and I couldn't face it. Sadly I was right.

Jamie Perry is half my age, does every game home and away, and is the most lovely, placid, good natured boy you could wish to meet. I gave the match report to him and, look, if he feels like this, if Jamie Perry feels like this...

Thank you, Jamie, for filling in this week...

Clive, i spend very little time on Twitter these days (you will never get me to call it X), really only going on there for a few minutes to look for specific info about a transfer, or to see what you or Dave Mc or someone are saying about a particular issue, whereas I once would spend hours just browsing and shit-posting. Whenever I go on there now I'm really struck by how toxic it has become, how much spiteful and aggressive content randomly ends up in my feed of only a handful of follows.

If you're getting the kind of abuse that you've described is there a way that you can come off and just automate your LFW account to share content? I don't really know anything about driving internet engagement, but does you being on there reading comments and replying make a difference? If not, maybe it's time to step back from it? Either way, it can't be worth affecting your mental health over.

I'm sure none of that is especially helpful or anything you haven't thought about yourself. But look after yourself comrade, and do what you need to do for yourself.

Oh and thanks Jamie, like Jeff said the thought that you had to actually watch all that again to write the report is genuinely horrifying. Kind of cathartic to read though, and a fantastic job at capturing the detail of a farcical occasion

Thanks Jamie - having to live through that twice is beyond the call of duty. Great work.

Clive - QPR can (and probably will) disappear smartly up their own central orifice. You, on the other hand, are not required to join them. Look after yourself brother. May your Peroni be cold and your Nandos be ever cheeky.

Coventry City 7 Queens Park Rangers 1 – Report on 03:42 - Aug 25 by BrisbaneR

Hi Clive,

It's easy to say this from the other side of the planet, I don't have to sit through the week-in week-out drama, broken promises, rising hope only to be dashed etc., but none of this is worth breaking yourself, bodily or between the ears.

If there is anyone who has earned the right to step away it's you; I appreciate you aren't seeking permission from people you've never met, but for what it's worth, you have it.

I hope a break gives you a chance to refresh, gain perspective and hopefully find joy again the bits you love about Rangers. You've written so beautifully about all the things that surround the game and what they mean to you, perhaps these are what will bring you back again.

All of the above is written with a thought that you might be broken (finally) and walk away from this forum that I love. I hope it doesn't come to that, but if that's what you need to do, I'm sure you'd do it with the thanks of all you've gathered here over the years.

All the best and take care of yourself.

Perfectly put, you’ve encapsulated exactly how I feel as well.

Take good care Clive…remember free beer available for the Bristol game if you’re around for that

Thanks Jamie, excellent report.

I really really struggled with renewing my season ticket this time round. My instincts were screaming at me to walk away at the end of last season because of the odious stench of partronising self-satisfied entitled shit coming out of the club at the time. And the massive gap between what they were claiming and what we could also see with our own eyes. But, hey, we legacy fans all "just want to see our favaourite players", don't we? Patronising kn8t.

Clive, glad you managed to do something else with your day. I'd rather have root canal.

Clive - Don't let the bar stewards get you down mate.

Jamie: Great effort. Really captured the problems with the physical shortcomings of the players and the need for Nourry to own the problem, admit it exists, and fix it.

I think we also need to look at the morale and motivation of the players. Not to dig them out, but just to recognise that you can talk forever and a day about projects and management structures but if the lads on the shop floor aren't having it (and this lot don't look like they're having it) then it's never going to work.

Something within the club clearly isn't right.

Clive, it’s important to remember that you are highly respected by a very large portion of the fanbase and that includes me. These arse-holes, on social media sites, sit behind a keyboard and don’t have the balls to call stuff out - unlike you.
Unfortunately, I now believe the club is orchestrating a lot of this and it’s time to fight-back. Yes, take a break and let yourself heal. However, when you’re ready be the brilliant journalist that you are and start to hold the cabal that is currently running the club to account.
Nourry has lit the blue touch paper and the fan-base is literally going to explode - it’s inevitable. Your oversight and reporting has always been accurate and honest. When your ready , sharpen up your “pen” and let Nourry know you’re not going away easily.

I too have been a regular at QPR since 1968 and there is a feeling about the place and the fans i have not experienced before. Personally i think the team is easily good enough to stay in this division but clearly something is missing. The first reaction is to blame the players [ the workers] but very often in life it is the administration/management which needs to change. Whatever the reasons for getting rid of Cifeuntes it is a dangerous game to take responsibility for disposing of someone and ending up where we are. The crowd numbers will last maybe 2 more games and then long time supporters like us simply will take time off.
The project is a very annoying term which is now starting to grate. The Plymouth decision was clearly a total misread by the person who took it. The annimosity against the management is higher than i can ever remember. I have no idea if Nourry is running the show but for whatever reason he is probably the most disliked figure i have known in my time of supporting QPR. And there have been a few to remember.
So what to do? If Charlton ends up in anything less than a draw the abuse will grow to a point that i doubt i have seen before. My guess is that people will turn up but the crowd will be nervous and looking for a reason to bay for blood. This can only make the players more tense and against a side who so far this season have been exactly what we are not. Committed to footbal not a project which all can see is leading us to disaster. And a comment on Walsh. If the idea was to boost his value i would guess that he has lost 75% of it to date. If we win against Charlton then time is on the side of those in the firing line. If not Rueben [ who seems very nice and has put enormous sums of money behind the club] needs to do what the supporters want , remove Nourry and Williams. It may not be their fault but somone has to be responsible and the supporters for right or wrong have decided it is them who are the reason for our demise. Give Stefan a few games to do it his way and then see. And if Rueben can't make a decision which would seem normal then Mr Hoos has to stand up. One can argue Coventry was a one off and reveryone relax but for those of us who follow QPR thru thick and thin this seems different and the sooner the hiearchy realise this and not sit in a golden tower the better. It doesn't matter the business you are in when it all goes wrong somebody falls on their sword and that needs to happen. As i say i don't know the guy but it is Nourry's blood the supporters want and he should be sacrificed as my sense is it is him or a large section of supporters who will walk in disgust. Those remaining will become increasingly negative and the palyers will be affected. For goodness sake losing Northern R , one of the biggest supporters at the club should really be noted and if not that is a major mistake.

An excellent report by Jamie if you hadn't told us who was the writer it could of been you writing, really pleased he didn't hold back with the criticism its all justified we can see what's going on behind the scenes.

Now we are really starting to see what Stephan is up against, we will never know if he's any good as a Manager because he's just a Head Coach as part of the project, here's the guidelines you follow these and stay within your remit we've got other Coaches and the Director of Football who will dictate the style of play for you to follow.

Ive been supporting since 1966 seen so many highs and lows and for a number of reasons I'm emotionally tied to the club, we all take the results to heart and it makes or breaks our weekends, the anger gets to us all because we care about the club, when eventually Nourry leaves we will still be supporting, that's if I live long enough....(lol)

Clive take care you do a fantastic job and your health comes before anything else, particularly at a weekend when we got the news about Andy Sinton...

I’m so sorry things are tough, Clive: it’s absolutely the right move for you to take a break, and great to see Jamie step in so effectively.

Please don’t forget that the voices on Twitter are a tiny minority of idiots, and that whatever else the rest of us disagree on, the vast majority of QPR fans agree that your writing is brilliant. Even when we’re doing terribly on the pitch, LFW remains one of the very few things QPR fans can be proud of and grateful for.

Really hope that you get a bit of a breather, and come back to things with renewed energy and enjoyment in a little while.

Thank you Jamie. An excellent, in depth report which lays it all out for those that were fortunate enough not to witness it and is a painful reconstruction for those who were watching.

Clive we value you in unmeasurable terms and we want you to be around and with us for the long term. It wouldn't bother most of us if there was slightly narrower coverage due to giving X a wider birth. If it is essential to the site, maybe you could get one or more of your LFW official part time assistants (unpaid role) to act as a filter for you.

Take care mate and feel the love that surrounds you.

I totally understand, why loyal fans are fed up with QPR.
I am 80 years old next year and still support QPR.
Our club are treating the fans, like we are from another planet.
Why is everything being done, so secretly, by Noury!!!
Let us hope, he goes soon, and get someone in, who supports, QPR.

Brilliant, if somewhat depressing read. I walked out, with many others before half time in discust, and still didn't walk through my front door until gone 10.30 Saturday night three sheets to the wind.

At this moment in time, I have absolutely no enthusiasm to get my backside out of bed on Saturday before 8 o'clock for the Charlton game, but no doubt come friday afternoon I'll book my train and come up, cause it's what we do innit.

As someone said further up, I was also at the West Brom 7-1, but this just feels a lot worse.

There's something rotten to the core about our club

Thanks Jamie.

This was the first Rangers away match I've not watched (live, sky or stream,) for a long time, but after reading your report I feel that I witnessed every minute!

At present it seems good that we gave away three goals at Plymouth rather than making the journey to Swansea this midweek!

Totally spot on report. Coventry have been in darker places than us, so maybe there is hope. No positives on the pitch but proud of our reaction to the announcement that Coventry now have a proper home, maybe shows us old farts are decent human beings. I had a long chat with one of their fans as I wondered back to the car park who admitted once they saw Illias wasn’t in the squad they knew it was definitely their day. Shows how important he is to us. Comedy moments around our singing of we’ve got the ball, we’ve lost the ball, we’ve had a shot and the oppo fans clapping us. Left at 7-0 so didn’t even see our goal. I felt they had more players on the pitch than us, speed of closing down, support at pace leading to options. Walsh definitely should have saved the 6th. Thing is we all think we are having a good window, maybe it will click. Clive hopefully see you in the Crown next Saturday, I think there will be a response, there has to be.

Clive, I am so sorry to learn how impactful the “struggles” have been on your physical and mental health. I am sure that stepping back for a while, hard as it will be, will be a good thing to do, and provide you with the head space and time to recover your sense of well-being.
Over many years, I have looked forward to your contributions, the previews of course, but particularly the match reports, especially when, as often seems to be the case these days, the result hasn’t gone well. I find that your unashamed passion and commitment to the club, is matched by a willingness to adopt a critical gaze and seek to look beyond the bluff and bluster. For me, this is why your reports are such a great read, so informative and really hit home – of course, they are also blooming funny, and that certainly helps when mulling over a rubbish performance.
I’m getting on a bit now. I first went to Loftus Road in 1970, and for years loved the family club atmosphere. It’s still there, sort of, but I’m also aware of the increasingly angsty atmosphere in both the real and virtual world of being a QPR supporter. It’s not a QPR problem, as such, for, sadly, we are not immune from wider social trends. I think I’m reaching the stage of life when I can count myself among “the boring old farts” for I find myself muttering, “just be kind” in response to so many situations. It’s not much of a philosophy but… And when I read about your anonymous critics and the impact they have had, I certainly did the same. I wish you a full and speedy recovery.

Thanks for the report, Jamie.
Clive, look after yourself. Health before everything else. The same applies to all posters on the board. Andy Sinton puts things in perspective.

Too much hatred in this world - and the anonymity of the web seems to have accelerated this. Take a moment to think before you start typing.
I love QPR as much as we all do, but I try not to get too deflated (or elated) at results. A couple of wins back to back (no giggling) and the mood will be very different.

Ps - I'm 56, if you're being referred to as an 'old fart' what hope is there for me?

"Thank you for supporting Queens Park Rangers Steep Staircase"... and I thought I'd signed up for a rollercoaster.

A truly wonderful report.

My favorite quote from was a friend of mine who stuck it out until the end. The only reason was that his wife was from Coventry and she and her Mum were shopping and wouldn't get back to the Ricoh until 6pm for him to pick them up.

He just texted me with those beautiful words: "Well that was s**t". That was a beautiful summing-up of the absolute dross that I watched.
