It’s a couple weeks till our next game: can’t remember who it’s against. Perfect time to hear your best and worst saints chant which you don’t hear anymore.

- One you’d bring back
- One you’d keep in the dustbin of time

In the meantime, enjoy our 80s ditty which surely went down well with the Scouting movement

Good question.

Bring Back - She wore a yellow ribbon.

Worst - Ian Branfoot's red & white army

Any chant(s) mentioning Saints and marching on to Europe......

Ready and waiting to mop up those European places......

His name is ___ _____, he's the leader of the team; the greatest centre-forward that the world has ever seen..

Can't see that one catching on this season either.

I'm a knock-kneed chicken
I'm a bow legged hen
And I haven't had a w@nk since I don't know when
I walk down the street with a squiggle and a squawk
Doing the Southampton boot walk!

I wonder he this will be resurrected in a few weeks times from our eastern buddies.

He's only a poor little scummer,
Who's feathers are tattered and torn,
He makes me feel sick,
So I hit him with a brick ,
And now he don't sing anymore!

Take a bow legged chicken from the Liverpool Kop
And he walks with a wiggle and walks with a hop
Hand grenade and a walking stick,
We are Southampton boot boys

We will follow Southampton, over land and sea, (and Portsmouth)
We will follow Southampton, on to victoreee…

Also not often heard now
Who’s the w@@ker in the black???
As refs now often wear cerise, orange, yellow or teal

One that can’t make a comeback
When Reuben Agboola was playing for us, I had a bench seat in the lower West Stand on the edge of the box at the Archers Road end. In those days the away fans were in their zoo enclosure in the West Stand / Archers corner and then a section of the Archers main terrace adjacent to the enclosure. Saints fans in the Archers next to the away fans started singing
Aroo, Aroo,
Aroo, Aroo,
Aroo, Aroo, Aroo…
Then nothing
They’d keep repeating it until the away fans did it back usually mockingly as it made no sense to them
As soon as they did the Saints fans would reply
A Reuben Agboola, ba doobie do do!
Quite amusing to watch the reaction from the away fans when they realised they’d been stitched up by responding.
From memory Swansea fans held out to the one minute of injury time (remember those days?) and were very pi@@ed off having held out since about halfway through the first half.

She wore a yellow ribbon is a good shout.

I always go on about this but when I went to the ZDS Cup Final in ‘92 I was amazed by all the songs.

What happened?

You cannot reason a person out of something they were not reasoned into.

About Wembley or just in general?

Most of these are easily adaptable. I hope the atmosphere against Pompey will reach expectations.

Ah that old classic. Remember the Koeman years where fans were singing the re-hashed version (when we get to Europe) away at places like St. James’ Park after the 1-2 win. Whatever happened to Elero Elijah (or whatever his name was)…..

I get it singing it about Europe but it’s proper noddy singing it when you’ve just been relegated, it was just about acceptable when we were moving up the leagues under Adkins.
I hardly hear its all Southampton anymore.
And the Northam it’s not oooooooo you fat bastard it’s oooooooooo you’re shit ahhhhhh. When did we start shouting the wrong thing?

Mythical dock strikes aside, that song actually preceded the time when Pompey fans started calling Saints Scum.

I can remember being in the Fratton End with Dougal's mob in 1966, when we won 5-2, and never heard the words 'scum' or 'scummers' once from the Pompey fans.

I think he eventually got out, so the second verse is not applicable.

The third would just get you thrown away now…

On a lighter note, we have:

Always wondered at what point that first one changed, for most of my life it was

We all follow southampton, over land and sea (AND WATER)

but in recent years the AND WATER has been changed to AND PORTSMOUTH

Personally i prefer the original version and find the new one a bit try hard.

In terms of old ones to bring back i think it's a hsame we don't do the version of OWTS where people held the words till you almost lost breath, used to mean it went right round the dell and built in volume.

To get rid of? Most of the modern ones are f*cking embarrassing, but that god awful liverpool one is top of the list

All the songs came out at Wembley but that was back in the early 90s and since then we seem to have lost most of them.

Are the kids still watching “She wore a yellow ribbon”? My Dad made me watch it on repeat BITD but I suspect not these days.

You cannot reason a person out of something they were not reasoned into.
