Out of the darkness – Report on 11:45 - Sep 1 by Northernr | We did say in his signing piece there will be A LOT of cards. |
Yep, I was warned by a Reading fan too. Got to love him, though. A really infectious character and those celebrations after the game were great.

The carrying the ball out and up the left wing first half was his best moment. We're so much better when we've got somebody in our team who can carry it out of defence.

Jimmy Dunne actually clapped that run. You don't see that often.

Out of the darkness – Report on 11:35 - Sep 1 by francisbowles | Great report Clive and I absolutely love the description of the third goal.😂 With regard to Mbengue, I don't think the ref was going to give the foul but perhaps the linesman 'persuaded him to award it'. Hence if the ref wasn't totally convinced he decided not to give the second yellow. We and Mbengue got lucky; That's three consecutive games he's collected one. At this rate he'll be the first one in the league to collect a ban for five. |
Ref absolutely wasn’t giving it until the lino stepped in. Seemed a quite clear and obvious foul from 120 yards away so not sure what he was seeing

Out of the darkness – Report on 13:18 - Sep 1 with 1480 views | Kingstan | Thanks Clive, another fabulous report which has really cheered me up. When I was a photographer covering England games in the 80’s and 90’s, my agency always sold more photos when England got beaten. I got a record amount of publications in 1988 due to Englands poor performance in the Euro Nations. England’s failures always provoked more hard copy. So I am not surprised that LFW receives more traffic after a defeat, as an avid reader and silent lurker, I certainly notice it.

Wasn’t it fantastic? Just laughed at him, ‘yeah whatever’, vibes. Been a while since having a player like that.

Adored that challenge. Don't underestimate the impact of Kone's physicality on their defence. It saps defenders physically and mentally. Not a coincidence that the same defender was utterly befuddled by Saito on the edge of the box for his winner.
Out of the darkness – Report on 13:37 - Sep 1 with 1420 views | thehat | Spot on as always Clive - A very enjoyable report. Fantastic to see smiling faces again in W12. I can imagine it's tough getting the vile abuse on social media but I hope you know the 99.9% of your followers and this message board really appreciate your efforts. Your journalism has a very positive affect on my life in good times and bad. Sincere thanks again for all your efforts.
Out of the darkness – Report on 13:40 - Sep 1 with 1397 views | jimf | Very minor correction - it was RND, not Vale who headed against the post on the stroke of half-time.
Out of the darkness – Report on 13:56 - Sep 1 with 1340 views | 89_50 | What really set apart the impact of Saito versus our other attacking starters (bar Kone), was how quickly he moved the ball. We're at our best when we move it around quickly. Not to dig him out too much, but Dembele will take half a dozen touches every time he gets the ball and it eats up time and momentum. To be fair to him, Madsen is good at two touch play as well, and will play a quick early pass when the chance is there - his splitting pass for Smyth the best example.
Out of the darkness – Report on 14:20 - Sep 1 with 1260 views | TheChef | Great report Clive - much needed win after Coventry and what has been a tough week for everyone (and you especially - I know it's tough to ignore the haters but as others have mentioned your content and this website are second to none. Keep fighting the good fight, we're all with you). When they equalised there was definitely an uh-oh feeling in the crowd, but as you mentioned the subs really made a difference, Saito especially. Pleased that we made the changes to be more direct from goal kicks, and with the excellent Kone up top he will make the ball stick a lot better. I had to laugh as Hayden came on to protect the lead, two seconds later Walsh nearly gives the ball away for an equaliser Overall there was a lot to like and here's hoping we can push on after the international break, which er, doesn't always happen... Only minor points were Walsh (it feels like they will stick with him come what may, unless we sign yet another keeper before 7pm tonight); and Dembele who just never got going. Isn't his stat that he has never won yet at LR?

Well he has now, but yes prior to Saturday never won a game he's started at LR, and only won 4 games he's started in total (now 5).

I find BlueSky works OK for me, but basic problem is that (some) people online behave like total dicks in a way that they wouldn't dare to face to face. I think the only real answer is to talk to more people face-to-face! Half of the digital revolution is about reducing the amount of human contact in our lives, and frankly it's a bad thing in countless ways. This place is one of the rare exceptions but, much as I appreciate all that Clive does and the many excellent posters on here, it's basically a substitute for being able to get to games and chat in the pub afterwards. Since I can't, I'm really grateful this site exists, but anytime I can do Real Life I'll choose it over digital.

I couldn't agree more, especially your second paragraph. Traveling on public transport these days, or even walking along the street, reminds me of an unwritten sci-fi novel from the 1950s, maybe by John Wyndham. Everyone is staring at a screen all the time. It's very disturbing on multiple levels. I'm not altogether innocent, but I limit myself to about eight regular sites and never go anywhere near the 'X'-cesses of the online world. Fortunately I'm elderly enough to be able to make that choice. Almost everybody in the working world isn't
Out of the darkness – Report on 20:06 - Sep 1 with 546 views | joe90 | We’ve got to enjoy the wins and not let the lows bring us down too much. We’re one of those teams with character - driving us mad in some games and getting us jumping for joy in others. I’m looking forward to the Stoke game and really hoping this is the start of something good… Thanks for the report Clive, vital reading (especially after a win) for those who couldn’t be there.
