My uncle, Brian Williams, played for Rangers in the 70s after signing from Bury. It's his 70th this year and I'm collecting images of him throughout his career with us, you, Swindon, both Bristol teams and Shrewsbury.
Is there a Rangers fan, like I know there are Bury fans, who has a vast archive of pictures that might include some of him that I could use?
Any help in pointing me in the right direction of someone would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Did he play in a cup game for Bury against us in 1976? If so, his pic and profile will be in that programme, which I'd look at for ya if I was at home.
We won 2-1 ...had to add that for the younger viewers who don't remember there was a time we turned up for cup games.
I regularly drink with the lad who scored our winner against Rangers in the 87/88 League Cup third round. Sorry lads.
I don’t however drink with the other lad who nearly ended Andy Sinton’s career in 1992.

This is a great thread and a wonderful idea. I watched Brain play several times in a poor QPR side. He always put in a shift and certainly never let us down.
Good luck with your plans. And best wishes to Brian too. Chris Guy is your man as many others have said!

Thanks for all your help everyone, you’ve been brilliant.
Hope you get somewhere.
Unfortunately Ariel started in 1984 so a bit late for your Uncle. She did recall him and his beard though! She suggested that 'the best shot is for someone who has access to their programmes to scan or photograph a couple of pages' which is line with the advice on here. Unfortunately her programmes are in storage.

I was at that 87-88 game. We were top of the first division at the time. A classic 'typical Rangers' that one. Sorry, slightly off topic. I'll try and dig out some programmes from the late 70's and see if there's any photos. Good luck

I've got some boxes of old programmes kicking about that should cover that period - will have a look later.
I've checked that 'facts about a football club' book but can't see Brian in there.

Hi James, the club photographers that were covering QPR before me were John Brough and Keith Crackenden. In those days, the photographer owned the copyright and not the club. Old photographic library’s were often sold to big agencies like Getty. Most of my QPR negs were sold when my old company got brought out.
The photo calls were always attended by the agencies, club photographer and local/provincial newspapers. I certainly remember processing portraits of Brian for the London News and Standard.
Try Getty, they used to have a QPR fan working in their library, they might be able to send you something being that it’s a special occasion. Good luck with your project.

Thank you. I was hoping someone might have some scans for this more 'personal' project. I had to go to Getty for the cover image of my second book which ended up costing me more than £500.

Don’t know if this is any good to you mate but there’s a nice pic of your uncle in the QPR home programme v Liverpool 12/11/77. You can usually find old progs on eBay and specialist footy programme sites.
Good luck and regards to Brian.
What a cool photo!
I grew up in the 80's so don't have any first hand memories of 70's teams .
That simple but utterly classic blue & white shirt is iconic.
Thanks for sharing.

There’s definitely a few Rangers fans I can think of you should speak to. One person who has a photographic knowledge of all QPR games going back to the 50s is Alan Barnes who is in the Paddocks area at Rangers. Ron Hill who goes to all our games will have a lot of stuff I’m sure. You can contact him on Facebook.
The Independent Rs group on Facebook will be a great place to ask for photos and memories. There will be people on there who will have something I’m sure.

I've been thinking about this post and enjoying reading the replies immensely. Its what makes football outside the top division so special.
Forgive me James but
"lower league player gets lucky playing against a team playing in a higher league…….. signs for them …….. plays a relatively small amount of games for them in a team that …….. to be fair ……. is very average despite being in the top league at the time.
Almost 50 years later a relative mentions that said player is approaching a milestone birthday …… and a dozen or more people post a variety of memories and photos about that player remembering pretty remarkable things (for a player that played less than 20 games for his new club) because he played for us and he cared"
Lovely. This club is ace and happy birthday Brian thank you for for being an R and being part of our history
