Again and again people overlook how important confidence is to a striker. Confidence in himself, confidence from his coaches, confidence in his team mates. Vipi is obviously in a good place at the minute and that is being reflected on the pitch.

And I know I swore to call a truce, but this new narrative being pushed that he'd never played well before "The Watford Game" needs to be squashed. There were plenty of decent performances from him last season whether people want to ignore them or not. If he'd never played well at all people wouldn't have spent all Summer defending him.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Now we've got Idah it's gonna give AS a hell of a headache.

Vipotnik has been crap since he has been here except the last couple of weeks where he has been excellent in patches. I really hope he continues in the same form because obviously he is a different player. If he does he will be gone in January and we will pick up a nice wedge. But will he start in front of Idah.

As a matter of interest, Google Translate tells me that Vipotnik means 'high speed train' in Slovenian - well he is that kind of striker. OTOH Vipi means 'whip'. I wonder which he prefers.

It's always worth checking that the shortnames we give foreign players aren't actually insulting in their own language.

Always liked Vip, thought there was something about him which needed a run of games to bring out. Think he's on the right track now and with the squad we have now compared to what we had when he first arrived hopefully we'll see much more from him.

I feel you're wasting your breath - some people just plainly see what a player needs to thrive. And they like the sound of their opinions so much they just can’t help themselves.

We’ve seen glimpses of what he can offer - Sheehan now has the tools at his disposal to keep Vipotnik scoring and that’s exactly what he’s been doing. It’s almost like some on here are stuck in the 80’s - Warnock/Allardyce wannabes - ā€œhe’s shit because he doesn’t put himself aboutā€. FFS 🤦

I agree with Dr Ws suggestion of a truce on this because it makes sense. It’s better for everyone of a Vipotnik does well, just some believe he will, others believe he won’t.

But this is incredibly naive, even by your standards. Lone strikers ā€˜putting themselves about’ isn’t an outdated 90s phenomenon. It literally means competing physically with centre backs. Not being outmuscled, getting on the end of chances and creating a platform for teammates to play in dangerous areas.

Why do you think we just spent big on Adam Idah?

Vipotnik had a great week from Watford to Sheffield Wednesday. No arguing there at all. If he keeps playing to that level, I’ll give him all the credit for turning it around, as I’m sure his other critics will.

If he doesn’t, you’ll find someone else to blame.

A Truce then !
VIP hasn’t been that effective
Now he is
Idah has been rubbished by Celtic fans yet he s a seasoned scoring forward

I’d say Sheehan has a perfect problem

We also have a load of midfield quality

It could be our time

I think folk might be more enthused now

Well yes. It doesn’t really matter how he’s done in the past. It’s how he does going forward that counts.

I’m not going to be convinced until he starts playing like that consistently, but if he does, we’re onto a winner.

Don’t know much about Idah, but that goal for Ireland was the type we’ve been missing for a long time.

I’m more enthused than I have been since the Rodgers/Laudrup days

Another rocket from a split second knockdown. He looks like a young Shearer. Wales does not produce this type of player. If the clubs shows the love and patience given to Cullen they are in a winner.

You keep mentioning patience shown to Cullen.

The reality is, we’ve just recruited really badly up front since Piroe. If Yates and Kukharevych hadn’t failed, he’d have been gone. They were around Ā£2m each I think and both were signed to play ahead of him.

If Vipotnik had been decent last season, he’d still have been here, but wouldn’t have started any games up front. He’d more likely have been used as a second striker when we were chasing games, or in midfield.

It’s very hard to see him playing as a centre forward from here on in regardless.
