Playing in Europe as an EFL club 18:30 - Sep 7 with 3399 viewsNorrisGreen

I often muse about qualifying for European competition by winning the cup but how would it even work now they have these league stages of 7 games before February?

I looked at our fixture list and although we have 6 clear midweeks during the euro-months, they don't all align. Even if they did, we'd basically be playing Sat-Wed*-Sat right up to the crammed festive period.

*I say Wednesday but it's more likely Thursday so there'd be Saturday's switched to Sundays. How that would fit with Sky matches scheduled for 12:30 is anyone's guess.

Basically it'd be an untenable logistical disaster if an EFL team got into Europe.

Yes, I'm more likely to scoop the lottery and be struck by lightning whilst getting the cheque than see us qualify for Europe but that's not the point... the game's morphing away from us and we're getting shoved to the periphery and marginalised.

On four of the occasions I watched us at Highbury, we weren't playing Arsenal.

C Mob ? took the North bank in 83-84 n then got walked the pitch proper good Sergios.

It was almost as beautiful as Ian Stewart's curler round Pat Jennings to make it 2-0...Mayhem ensued.........lets be honest its what we go for lol

I’m probably being thick, I can think of the two UEFA cup games in 1984, the FA cup semi in 1982, when was the other?

The League Cup semi final replay in 1977.

Millwall last team to do it. Not sure who the first was.

It’s irrelevant for QPR because we have a game model structure where the cups don’t matter. They’re simply an opportunity to let our 18 year olds play a game as it’s part of the project.

We have made the QF of either cup once in 30 years!!! That Sunday up at Old Trafford when Lee Sharpe scored for United. He must be nearly 60 now!

Videoton were a good team though. They knocked Man Utd out in the QFs and ended up getting to the final losing to Real Madrid. I wouldn't have fancied us against them.

I remember that. Was in the clock end and saw them scatter the North Bank. Then our lot were marched down to our end to applause. The Stewart goal was indeed a thing of beauty.

Birmingham did it since then I think, won the League Cup and got relegated?
Remember them taking 6,000 people to Brugge as a Championship club.
This was before group stages mind.
Presume they wouldn't have to come into the League Cup till round three?

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but wasn't it just four blokes that were marched out the NB, down the pitch and put into the away end?

That’s right. 2013/14 season they played in Championship and ‘competed’ in the Europa League. I’d love to see QPR play in a Europe contest.

Although finishing bottom of their group, Wigan certainly didn't disgrace themselves that season in the Europa League. They managed to win one of their home games and their three defeats were all by the odd goal.

Dont take this the wrong way because it's an international week, itself after the TW slammed shut, so it's a slow news day, but you win the internet today!

As for that Spanish lingo lark...I once informed a couple of young Irish lads working for me that cuidado piso mojado meant that the floors were cleaned with urine. They spent a long summer wary of coffee shops.

More like a dozen I reckon. Also run them ragged in the Highbury Barn before and after, one of the great turn outs. Always showed up at Highbury whoever we were playing.

Yeah that's my recollection, around 10 to 15 of them.
