Carlisle played 4 at the back, a high line and high press. Cut apart time and again, 4th goal was a beauty from back to front. They looked to struggle to clear set pieces a few times. Always had York and FG as the two to beat in this division, nothing to change that opinion yet for me.

Refwatch - Rochdale v Solihull Moors on 17:20 - Sep 24 by TalkingSutty | Fast starts in home games are key i think. Don't give the away team time to settle and organise themselves. When we move the ball around at a quick tempo most teams struggle to contain us. [Post edited 24 Sep 17:21]

It helps when the opposition are awful for 20 mins and you score 3. We were just allowed to do what we wanted in that first 20 - they weren't pressing us, running with us, picking up players, we were almost playing with 4 wingers the way Beckwith and Gordon were going forward with ease to support Allarakhia and Adebeyo-Rowling. If it weren't for the keeper we would have scored within the first minute!

It was a really bad opening to the game for them, which was magnified by the change in formation after our third. We are obviously looking to play our own game, as always. And when we come up with unique adjustments to make that even more effective (the role of East) coupled with an opposition that get it so badly wrong, we are even harder to stop. Sometimes the opposition defend better and there will be games when we struggle initially and we might have to dig in - that’s when the mentality is important as players don’t always play well. But when they are playing well, finding passes quickly and effectively they are a step above most at this level.

I'd rather focus the credit on our players. It was noticeable that we moved the ball quickly from the first whistle, we don't always do that. There are times when we seem to try to settle into games and kick on from there. The pre-kick off huddle on the pitch was noticeably longer than usual also. I think last night was the blueprint when it comes to approaching games when you know the opposition want to set up in a low block. That's what Solihull would have done last night had we not got the early goal.

York haven't properly got going yet though have they? That's why we just need to keep hammering the points and goals like we are doing. The originally scheduled York away fixture would have been a great time to play them.

Yeah, total credit to us. Every player was on top form and got it right almost all of the time in that opening 20. Sometimes they won’t, but it obviously isn’t for the lack of trying and at least we know they’re good enough to win games when not at their best too. That all said, Solihull’s manager got it so badly wrong it was very admirable to see him doing something about being tactically out-thought before kick off.

Hard to tell, they seem to have struggled to breakdownv defensive minded teams, but last night showed they can turn it on if opponents set up to attack. Hard to say if their starting 11 is better than last year, Newby a decent addition, Kitching for John? Jury out on that one. Sacked manager early on which doesn’t aide consistency.

Kitching is now playing as a LCB, York fans seem impressed with him in that role. John was very in and out. Carlisle fans openly questioning Hughes after as well. Suppose it’s an understandable reaction to a heavy defeat but then again he was probably the messiah after their Linney-inspired recent run.

Including the NLC, we've opened the scoring inside 15 minutes in five of our 11 games so far this season.

Having better options up front has made us better against that - Dieseruvwe and Amantchi (and Bird last season) immediately makes us more effective I think. Teams struggle however they set up because we can put crosses in that’ll cause problems or we can go long knowing it’ll be held up. Or we can pass the ball about scoring the kinds of goals Mitchell would finish last season. We must be very hard to plan against now.

Yes, better quality and a continuity in the core of the team from last season and before has helped i think. It's a big ask for anybody to expect us to win this league but with the experience gained from last years Play Off game and the quality of our signings we have as good a chance as anybody this season when it comes to clinching one of the promotion spots. The recruitment of Done and Taylor to assist McNulty could also prove to be a master stroke. [Post edited 24 Sep 21:34]

Some might have said it after bad results. Some didn’t. Some were constructively critical and could identify his flaws irrespective of results. It’s at every club ever. Not sure what your point is. But what isn’t at every club ever is doing very little to save your football club whilst celebrating undeserved success. That's a special time of “biz”.

McNulty’s additions, on and off the field, are another illustration of how the idea to evolve over time has proven a productive path. There will be bumps in the road, but the infrastructure is in place to be successful and it’s taken time.

One thing that has been very good during McNulty's tenure is his recruitment. The first season when we were close to losing the club and had a very poor budget he still recruited well. Irrespective of how some fans view him, his players absolutely love playing for him, that's massive. We have some big games coming up now and i think how we approach them and play is just as important as the result. Everybody associated with the club needs to see that we have the skill and mental strength to go toe to toe with all the contenders because the chances are we will be playing some of them again in the Play Offs if we don't win the league. If we lose to the better team then fair enough but let's not die wondering and let's be brave and not be overawed by anybody. We lacked bravery last season in the big games, thats something that needs to change now and it's up to the manager and coaches to lead from the front. Learn from the mistakes of last season.
