Playing Harefield in the Middlesex Senior Cup;

HT score 6-0 with Coomes (3), Isak, Dillon and Dyke.

Make that 7 after 54. Dyke's 2nd from a Keiran Morgan cross.

There does seem to be a real desire to move the ball forward quickly. And this doesn’t necessarily mean a long ball. But breaking at pace seems to be key to the style of play.

I only watched bits of the second half due to some work calls

Who is the number 9 for us?

Not sure but if it was the lone striker I think it was the Aussie lad, Bennie.

I only saw the second half on the stream, but I was impressed by our No 4, Isak Alemayehu. Good passer of the ball and always looking to go forward.

I wasn't able to watch the game so pleased to read the positive comments and with the result. I've been impressed with the bits I've seen of Alemayehu and I've got a good feeling about him.

Also only saw the second half but Isak looked good. Very capable and receiving the ball from the keeper whilst under pressure and being able to turn his man and move the ball forward. Bennie is a very tidy footballer who I’ve always liked when I’ve seen him.

Clear parallels with the style of play of the first team; lack of possession and hitting teams on the break.

Their no.6 Malcolm Dacosta Gonzalez was a class apart.

Which is interesting right? Or at least it is if you're oddly preoccupied with The Game Model and it's fate post-Coventry

Does this mean the club have retrofitted the new style club wide in response to JS changes to the first team? And if so, is this the permanent _finalFINAL.docx version or can it be thrown out too with another heavy defeat or change of manager?

I thought we played Nourry Game model to a tee.
Receiving from the keeper, play out from the back, 433, high press.
Also thought we played possession football. Or at least tried to.

All sounds good.

Hopefully JCS just a precaution taking off, orherwise it would not be looking great for him - poor chap.

If Poku and Chair come on for few minutes in next couple of games, all well and good.

There was some playing out from the back (with limited success) and, from what I saw (second half only) all three goals were scored on the break with low levels of possession.

I've always thought that a style of play should be played across all the teams at a club. This should be set by the first team, rather than by proforma from on high.

A change of manager/head coach or a revision of what is required for the first team, should impact on what is being played further down the line.

Definitely.
Just not sure that was the plan :)
I think we just kept giving the ball away and were forced back.

First half was much better.

For all the differing ideas of the best way to play the game, when I played football I quickly worked out that the vast majority of goals were scored when the opposition had the ball.

That's true, but you can spend five minutes pissing around at the back, lose it and concede a goal in two seconds. So you have 99.33% possession and you're a goal down.

The problem with this model is that managers change so often at the top level. If you replicate those changes in playing style through all the youth teams, it would leave a wildly inconsistent and scattergun journey through youth football that would have a really negative impact on player development.
