Without doubt the best Keith Hill interview I’ve heard. That includes forums when he’s held court.

He was genuinely honest and likeable. His attention to detail, to the point he corrected himself on historical inaccuracies was refreshing and interesting.

What summed it up best was the end when he was openly admitting how much he was enjoying the experience and wanted to carry on.

Get him back as manager when McNulty leaves*.

*that may have been a joke. Or not. But you know, if anyone thinks we need a new manager…

Agree. Would do no harm to let the present incumbent listen. Goes to show, you only have to be human and humble.

Thanks, Podcasters. That was a wonderful listen. Apart from the interviewee's engaging input, you asked some great questions and gave some wise observations. Brilliant all round.

It’s an environment suited for people to relax and totally unlike anything Hill will have experienced when he was actually manager.

Release part 2 quick, it's a great listen.

Love that bit "you think and you believe you're this like top top coach, when really you're just a top recruiter. And if you recruit the right players, with the right mentality, and you've got the right group... you'll be successful" in my opinion, sums up how things are going with McNulty right now. Hopefully it works as well!

Indeed…he is at his best in these 1 on 1 ( or 2 on 1 in this case) interviews. Sounds relaxed, honest and not trying to BS. One interesting point for me was him saying how he didnt want Murray to leave. In later transfers he always claimed he wouldnt stand in the way of a player bettering himself (Matt Done to Sheff U was the classic example given we were fighting them at the time for promotion). I wonder when his attitude towards players leaving changed. Maybe thats in Part 2!

Maybe when he was rumoured to be getting a percentage? 😉

I reckon you’d have to go back 30 odd years for the last time we put out a squad on a match day which featured no player to have either played with or have been managed by Hilly (could be a random game under Stockdale which is the exception). A brilliant listen and would always welcome him back in some capacity.
