made a difference if they'd have started.

thought frey had a great first half...watched his overall performance, especially defensive.
i know he is there to score, but he put in a good shift.

thats from in the ground by the way.

In my somewhat limited opinion, I think we could have started with a more balanced team.

So maybe not like for like but Frey or Kone with Burrell or Smyth, for example. I’m sure there are more subtle tweaks but Kone and Frey starting - really ? It just tired Kone out and made him less effective and pissed off. With Burrell, Kone operates far more effectively.

Dembele is a good sub when chasing the game to inject a change but he’s not a starter, so swap him with someone else.

If an idiot like me can see this, then Julien should know all of this by now and two points wasted this evening.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

I think perhaps if the midfield two if we had started field and morgan or hayden and Morgan we may have had a bit more cutting edge.

Resting both Varane and Madsen possibly was an error but if he had to do it, maybe he has learned Field and Hayden wont concede many but creativity will be at a minimum with both on the pitch.

Frey was more effective than Kone tonight, who did not get going at all this evening. Vale and Dembele were both not at the races tonight also

IMO we should of started with Burrell (only played 45 mins last time out) He stretches the pitch and brings Kone higher up the pitch with him.
Madsen should of started instead of Field. An example was when he dinked a chip over the centre half for Smyth who should of cut it back to Kone on the pen spot who was free. He has better vision than our other mids to see that pass.
Saito. Just more affective than Dembele. Gives more protection to the full back as well as better going forward.
Hayden for Varane was ok and Cook can be relied upon. No problem with those changes.

Just a wasted opportunity I feel.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Funny how we see things differently. I thought Frey looked very rusty and was largely ineffective, especially offensively. I lost count of the number of time midfielders were shouting at him for not showing. That being said, I don't think it helped starting him alongside Kone, much in the same way pairing Field with Hayden didn't work.

Frey did very well considering how long he’s been out. Thought he was getting pissed off with Dembele who never tried to strike up a partnership

Strong and stable my arse.

He was immobile, slow and cumbersome. He won little in the air, didn't link up play, didn't work the channels, didn't get the team up the pitch, and refused to show for midfielders when asked. Granted he's been out but we mustn't be making excuses for players who are regularly injured. Lack of availability in itself is a problem, not mitigation for poor performances.

We severely lacked pace until the subs, just starting any two of those that came on would have made a difference.

I like Frey, but I thought he was very poor, and it had a negative impact on Kone. Of the changes only Cook was decent. Dembele was very poor again, and Field and Hayden does not work unless we are defending a lead.

Dont know if Kolli was injured but would have been a better option to have than having 3 defensive midfielders in the squad.

I hope lessons are learnt Oxford were able to play a super high line until the subs.

Get the need to rest players just thought it was the wrong combination of players.

Should have been Frey for Kone (Burrell only played 45 mins) Morgan for Madsen (If Madsen needed a rest) Cook for Mbengue Smyth for Saito not Dembele who cant play on the left

I wondered why Kolli wasn't given a run out in the first half yesterday, might have brought more to the table than Frey did. But he wasn't even in the squad.

100% correct on all points - I wish you'd been in the dugout. Shame our manager either can't see it, or is too stubborn to admit he got it wrong.

If your going to play Kone & Frey together which btw I think is a good idea then you need to get service into them , first time crosses etc , they had no service at all through the first half, imo the game was crying out for Smyth to start , quite what Dembele brings to this formation is another story

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

They Improved us significantly when they came on so logically that improvement would have been greater if they'd started. But presumably they were rested on medical advice. They won't improve us by pulling hamstrings or worse, and spending weeks on hospital wards treatment tables

Rusty maybe, yet Frey had the only shot on target in the game .

I expected changes , including a game for Field alongside Hayden, but was surprised that Burrell was rested.

Hopefully Burrell, Saito and Madsen will start against Bristol City.
