Russell Martin to be sacked in the morning 21:32 - Oct 5 with 1810 views | GRIM | Looks like time is up for Russell Martin. Rumours are he's being sacked in the morning after another dismal display this weekend. He'll find his level eventually.
Russell Martin to be sacked in the morning on 21:38 - Oct 5 with 1572 views | Southamptonfan | Their fans demand success. The board have to act, with such passionate, demanding fans. Many clubs have fans that just won't accept failure and force their club to act. Watching boring draws against vastly inferior clubs just isn't acceptable. [Post edited 5 Oct 21:43]

Yes it sounds very familiar. RM has no experience of managing in European games or managing a team with aspirations of winning the title. These owners never seem to learn. If you want to win titles, appoint someone who knows how to win titles and has been there and done it. If you want promotion, appoint someone who knows how to get promotion. Or at least someone who knows the league very well and got close. If you want a plumber to fix up your kitchen, get one who has done the job of fixing up a kitchen, not one who hasn't. Otherwise, they are out of their depth. Will Still is in exactly the same situation. Teams like Rangers, West Ham, Everton and many others have fans that act before it's too late. A completely different fanbase to ours, they blocked the team coach waiting for him after the game. He had to sneak out in a car. Good on them for not putting up with mediocrity. If it was here the noddys would be clapping him off week in week out.

Many of our fans seem to accept or make excuses for failure. I remember the team getting clapped off at Spurs away, the day we got relegated. A bunch of happy, smiley, clappy fans cheering failure. It does annoy me to be honest. I bet Rangers end up in far better position, having fans that demand success than fans who just clap and cheer.

Agree. I'll support the team DURING the match as we want to win, but a manager and ownership should be held to account. Rangers fans did well to force that change. We clap on.

Happy Clappers or sit back and do nothings, there is no real difference. 30 years ago the fanbase got off its collective a*** and protested against Ian Branfoot and the board, since then we have accepted a succession of inept managers and at times owners. I see a lot of words on social media about managers & owners but I see nothing at the games, did anyone protest against our owners at the last game ? has anyone suggested forming a supporters association or union to organise protests and take the board to task ? We all know the answer to that one don't we, these days its far easier to stay in the pub or rant on message boards, it's not Happy Clapping, but its the same level of protest. Is there anyone on here who is going to start the revolution ? Thought Not ! Back in the old days we supported the team, but not the manager or board, that didn't make us happy clappers, it made us supporters, but we didn't sit back and let them shaft us off the field

But do people really have to stand there clapping after a relegation like at Spurs last season? Even if there arn't organised protests, why arn't there loud boos every time the team fails, so that a message gets across that's this isn't acceptable. And if I started a chant about Sport Republic, I have a few times actually, about 2 join in, a few turn round in utter shock and look offended, a few tut, and a few just carry on sitting silently looking at their phone or sitting on their hands. At clubs like Rangers, it's all in, the whole crowd protest, loud booing, extreme upset comes across. [Post edited 5 Oct 23:35]

And a recent visitor (who vanished into the night quicker than our Premier League status) had the gall to call us bedwetters. Our fan base are 90% clappers….. From a fairly well run, established PL club to where we are now with two relegations in recent years……… [Post edited 5 Oct 23:53]

Spot on !. That's why we should have appointed Chris Wilder in the Summer. He's not everybody's favourite but he has experienced Promotion + Relegation in both the Premier & Championship leagues. Plus he's familiar with our club having been on our books as a youngster. BUT he's quite a volatile Character & he wouldn't suck up to SR.

I wouldnt go with Wilder, yes he has got Sheffield United promoted, but has not done well anywhere else when he was at Middlesbrough he was sacked after 11 games with the club in the bottom 3 three years ago. I am not sure he is familiar with the club, he left in 1986 and I don't think he has been back much since, in the near on 40 years since he left without getting near the first team, the club is now unrecognisable, we have moved grounds, had multiple changes of ownership etc. Volatile managers don't usually work unless they are truly top knotch and winning things, otherwise they usually flit from club to club because either the players have got fed up with being abused or the owner has got fed up. Managers have to be diplomats, they have to juggle keeping a big playing squad happy with keeping the owners happy, if a manager doesn't suck up to the owner then he won't be there very long unless they are winning things, they create friction not unity.

I pick up on your point Nick " the club is unrecognisable from 40 years ago". Never a truer word was spoken. We are unrecognisable & definitely not for the better. Yes, we have a modern stadium but that's about the only improvement & some might say that they preferred The Old Dell. Proper football, proper atmosphere & enjoyable unlike the last few years at St Mary's.

Whilst I would agree with your comments in general, all joking side i would also point out that if you took any football club in the top two divisions from 40 years ago and compared it to now, most would be totally unrecognisable both in terms of their stadiums and who owned them
