One last gig 12:16 - Oct 6 with 1253 viewssaint901

If you were able to attend only one more gig in your entire life, not a festival but a main artist and perhaps some support, who would it be?

Depends - are we talking acts that remain alive and well, or are you including any with deceased members?

Ready and waiting to mop up those European places......

Your choice.

Who'd want to stare at other people's coffins, no matter how neatly they were arranged on the stage, when you're just about to end up in one yourself?

My choice would be Yuja Wang playing the first 3 Prokofiev piano concertos, backed by Kirill Petrenko and the Berlin Philharmonic.

Your choice.

Being as I never caught them, I would plump for an act not seen so potentially Secret Machines or Big Country (but naturally key members are no longer around).

Current act I would go for a Russian band called Blankenberge

Talk Talk - before the sad early death of lead singer Mark Hollis in 2019 aged 64.

I was always away at sea for years whenever Talk Talk were on tour and never did get to see them live. I saw numerous other bands that I loved back in the day, sometimes several times, but never did get to see Talk Talk - one of the finest bands ever IMHO. That 1986 Montreux gig looked phenomenal...

I’d go for Pink Floyd with a couple of guest guitarists making appearances, Mark Knopfler and Mike Oldfield - would love to see Oldfield have a crack at Comfortably Numb alongside David Gilmore. Would also love to see Gilmour take lead guitar on the Mike Oldfield track Man On The Rocks from 4 mins in where his talent would add just a little extra to that track. Would be great to see.

If we are going to bring people back then Bowie would be my first choice, just one more time.

Yeah really liked them. I believe there was a gig where it kicked off between ‘said’ drummer and one of the crowd. Not sure how true, but it involved a female / girlfriend in the crowd also.

You can't have Geddy Lee, I'm keeping him with Rush and the reincarnated Neil Peart. Such a distinctive sound and live act for a trio

Steve Hillage 1978. I met the future Mrs H there. Entranced by the waff of patchouli oil and the Afghan coat.

Well you will have to tell Geddy - as he is a die hard fan of Chris!

I saw Yes just a couple of weeks after Chris Squire passed and as a tribute they just placed his guitar on the stage with a spotlight on it for the duration of the concert. Quite a strange, but excellent, evening. And Steve Howe despite looking about 103 years old, can still play a mean guitar!

If we're including artists that are dead as well as alive i'd go with Miles Davis first great group (the one with John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Jimmy Cobb, and Bill Evans). And the support acts of Prince and Stevie Wonder

I would go for Slade , the original line up is still all alive, if they did one last massive gig then it is giving the fans what they want.

It always makes me a little sad that some artistes see themselves above playing with their ex bandmates again.

One particular one that grinds with me is Paul Weller, broke up the Jam at their height as he wanted to get all arty farty with the Style Council, refusing to play Jam songs live etc.

When that all went pear shaped he did put the Jam songs back in his solo sets and he got back to the top in the 1990's.

But although he plays Jam songs in his set he refused to play a Jam reformation gig, even though his two former bandmates could have probably have done with the money, haughtily declaring that he is all about the present not the past (Still plays the Jam songs at gigs though to ensure he get the crowds in)

Ralf Hutter, Florian Schneider, Roland Barthos and Wolfgang Flur. KRAFTWERK. That would, of course involve time travel and my teenage self might just have been swayed by Debbie Harry instead!

I agree with Nick as regards Slade. Saw them at The Gaumont in early 80’s - the circle and upper circle were bouncing. Loud, great entertainment, and real boot stomping rock. They brought the house down!!
Thin Lizzy with Phil Lynott were excellent live.
For the rockers out there, then I would watch Airbourne - amazing energy live - full throttle Aussie rock, not subtle - as their frontman says “no f@#k..g ballads here!!”.
