Once again David Artell’s Blundell Park outfit are playing out of their skins and possibly above their abilities and have not only secured a high-flying top three League Two position but also are enjoying a great Carabao Cup run with Brentford next at their stadium.
So, we can expect a difficult game on Saturday live on Sky Sports + at 3pm but Colchester have started to hit some decent form of late themselves and I expect our form to continue with a 3-1 deserved win to maintain our climb up the table.
Weather will be 11 degrees Celsius with sunny intervals and light winds.
Team:
Smith
KVY Araujo Tucker Iandolo
Payne Read Bishop
Anderson Lisbie Mbick
Subs: Kuffour Macey Gordon Hunt Edwards Williams Powell
Safe journey to the travelling faithful.
Sadly, I won’t be present on Saturday and so will miss out on Papas Fish n chips, on Cleethorpes Pier but I will watch on Sky.
Gerry, enjoy the game and the three points.

I'll have two lots of fish and chips, one for me and one for you Peter. I'll get everyone to wave to you. Enjoy the game and hopefully three points. Hopefully will also upset my neighbour who is a Mariners fan and will also be present.

Probably more likely Macey in goal, but otherwise I’d be happy with your lineup. I was going to query the absence of Tovide, until I read he’s injured his ankle (allegedly, man management perhaps?). On paper this is probably our toughest game of the season so far, so if our recent improvement is to last, we need to get something out of this. Definitely take a point right now though.

Gerry, I hope that Papas was better fare than Colchester are serving up at present.
Our continuing lack of consistency remains a real puzzle.
We can do much better.

Come from one-nil down, away to a team in the top three, they hit the post in the dying minutes but we cling on to win 1-2. That's what makes away trips so special. Yes, you have to endure some bad ones, but it's worth it for days like today!!!!

Absolutely, thought they'd snatch an equaliser with that last chance, but it would have been harsh on a U's side who deserved the win overall. Mbick will get the headlines, and rightly so, but what a performance from Bishop - kicked to bits but still dominated the play.

Outstanding win after a poor start.
We are starting to hit some form. Just cut out those silly defensive lapses.

Good job you missed the game. Even I shouted at the referee several times today so you would been very vocal. Seven yellow cards tells you mu h about him.

The ref was so bad I read he booked Harvey for timewasting, and he wasn't even in the matchday squad.

Gerry, he must have been abysmal to receive that criticism.
Still we did win which is great.

Harvey was sat in the dug-out and naively delayed the return of the ball in a manner guaranteed to provoke a card. Not in the squad, but like any non-playing coaches and analysts or physiotherapists sat there, still subject to good sportsmanship regulations.
The referee and his assistants annoyed both sets of fans. Repeatedly, corner's, goal kicks and throws were awarded to the ‘wrong’ side. Payne got wrongly booked for simulation after having his ankles rapped with Jack at full pace, just outside the box. Thankfully, the most deserving team eventually won, but had he found some reason to disallow our first goal, I wouldn’t have been surprised. I’ve only seen similar rucks on a rugby pitch. It was a hard fought win despite the U’s far superior shot and attacking statistics.
Food highlight was not Fish & Chips. It was the (proper) chunky chips with a pulled beef and gravy topping served with Yorkshire puddings inside the ground. Combine this with a pay cash on the gate option, human turnstile operators, paper tickets, proper programmes, friendly stewarding, decent ale in the away bar, and it was a delightful experience compared to the production line automated sterility of the Jobserve Stadium.
Grimsby has always been one of my favourite away days. Nice to see it in daylight, albeit a masterstroke to win the toss and switch ends. The sun’s glare in the second half was clearly troubling Grimsby attackers down their left flank.

You are right about the Harvey booking. Didn't do himself any favours by smirking after receiving the card. I thought the ref might disallow the second due to a raised foot from Mbick, but thankfully he saw sense and a beautiful goal was scored.

Does Grimsby substitute, Justin Amaluzor, have the most unfortunate surname in the EFL?
I can't imagine anyone coming up with a better one than that.
Going off on a tangent, I'm quite partial to a day at the races, and horse names have to be checked out and approved by the authorities, but occasionally one or two smutty ones get through.
Years ago there was a horse called G-spot, and the joke was that you should bet on it to come second.
My favorite was a horse called Hoof Hearted, a commentators nightmare.

My head is still sore from the singing and constant drumming. How he keeps that up for two hours I will never know, but also he is the "orchestra" to the singing so all credit to him.
