| English people promoting Welsh " Regime change" again. 15:27 - Oct 22 with 1638 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Wales has been a pseudo nation for 300 years and resisting absorption by English for 1300 years. We have had our own Parliament for 26 years. Welsh economic performance has had a tough job since Reform sponsored Brexit. Nevertheless Wales has always balanced the books and maintained social services. Can do better of course. Reform has come to Wales waving Welsh flags but their hardline supporter support Abolishing the Senedd. The ex Tory Laura Jones let the cat out tof the bag and the ex SFC chairman Rupert Lowe said the same Wales is a peaceful place but I get a bit nervous about outsider like him promoting changes to our Parliament. It is a really. "Regime change". It the big bad world that is a toxic subject. English actors have a great expertise in this sort of thing. Beware unintended consequences. [Post edited 22 Oct 15:30]

Key economic indicators GDP per person: In 2022, Wales's GDP per person was £27,274, or about 74% of the UK average, which was the second-lowest of the UK's countries and English regions, just above the North East of England. Productivity (GVA per hour worked): This metric continues to be lower in Wales than most other parts of the UK. In 2021, it was about 84.1% of the UK figure. Household income: Wales has weaker underlying economic performance in terms of household income when compared to the UK average. Poverty: A significant portion of children in Wales grow up in poverty, and Welsh residents have reported higher levels of poverty after housing costs compared to the UK as a whole, especially between 2021 and 2023. Economic structure and trends Sectoral composition: The economy is less weighted towards high-productivity services compared to the UK average. Instead, it relies more heavily on manufacturing, agriculture, and tourism, and has a larger proportion of smaller firms. Productivity trends: While the long-term trend shows a gap in productivity, there have been some modest improvements in Wales's relative productivity (GVA per hour worked) in the most recent decade. Export profile: Key exports include machinery, transport equipment, and manufactured goods. Areas where Wales potentially underperforms relative to its size include exports of food and beverages. Economic inactivity: The rate of economic inactivity has remained steadily around 20 percent, which is a persistent challenge.

Just more pesky facts why the Senedd should go. Is it Welsh patronage to go with more of the same or just gross stupidly.

Yes much better. It was depressing to see Eluned not backing the Welfare reforms of Reeves designed to get people off benefits and back into work. She stated Wales had "special needs due to our industrial heritage". Yuk. Performance of the Senedd is actually a different subject. The subject of the post was Welsh people being influenced by third parties promoting "Regime change" and removing the semi autonomous elected Parliament of Wales..

If the Senedd goes then we become an English region and lose £ billions. Enemies of Wales will play local tensions to so division. Brexit has given Wales seriously problems due to our agricultural and industrial nature. We are a semi Autonomous Nation not a remote region of England like Cumbria suitable for nuclear waste disposal sites. Cymru am byth.

What use is that talking shop in cardiff if all it concentrates on is making sure the poor stay poor , the uneducated ,uneducated and the sick and lame stay sick and lame for the longest time .It seems people from other countries whether here or abroad are more important than its own , delusions of grandeur with offices in 11 countries. The primary locations include the US 5 offices, China having 3 offices & India with 3 offices. Sending our money abroad to plant trees , wasting millions on a feasibility study knowing the project wasn't going ahead anyway. Its now proven that Welsh politicians are 3rd rate talking shop councillors who have forgotten who they represent so yes either a complete clear out with defumigation to get rid of the stench of corruption and if that doesn't work then flatten the place .

You are saying Welsh people cannot run Wales. This is a myth and borderline racist. No one anywhere in the world is happy with their governments. Welsh people ran Swansea city brilliantly for 14 years and fans hate them as well. Who would guess it ? Your list of grievances are pretty tame in my view. The 20mph was clearly very unpopular. The tree planting in Africa was pennies for charity. You and your chums are parochial enemies of Wales and. deal in second city whining. No use to anyone. Day trips of 3 hours or more are down 7% on 2023 Overnight trips were down 16% quarter 2 of this year compared to the same period in 2024. Maybe long stretches of motorway at 50 mph, 20 mph speed limits & the arrogance of those in the Senedd not to build a relief in Newport are putting people off travelling to Wales. Obviously the Welsh government are not doing well in promoting Wales. At least we have our retired English friends moving across to spend their retirement money in Wales of which we should all be thankful.

It's not racist. It might be defeatest though. I asked this question before - What makes Wales as a country of 3m+ people uniquely unable to hold any power? Why can Moldova run itself but Wales cant? Improving the Senedd is a no brainer but why would anyone want it abolished?

Any Welsh politician with talent is in Westminster, not Cardiff Bay. It's a second rate Parliament staffed with second rate people. Added to that you have the clear and obvious lack of interest in developing the rest of Wales for the benefit of the CF postcode area, something that those purportedly representing those other areas don't care about because they'll still be elected anyway. Moldova is a poor comparison in any case. It's the second poorest country in Europe by GDP. 85th in the World in human development. Other former Soviet States have rebounded from decades of Socialist oppression far more robustly. Sure, if that's your comparison Wales could do just fine.

I appreciate you offering an explanation. I’ve asked the question what’s unique about the Welsh that we’re incapable of governing a few times and nobody has really made an effort to reply. So to take it on a bit further… There are 32 Welsh MPs in Westminster. Your argument for abolishing the Senedd is that in a country of over 3 million, we can only produce 32 decent politicians? I should make it clear that I am pro union, but I do think an effective Senedd would be a good thing.

There are 32 MP's representing Welsh constituencies. That's not quite the same thing. All of them will have several people vying to be elected to those rather than to the Senedd. There have in the relatively recent past been Welsh MP's representing constituencies elsewhere. The bottom line is that the best always have and will continue to try to get into the National Parliament first. Having said that, the Senedd's biggest problem is one that is beginning to be amplified at UK level. Namely the fact that the money is far too low to attract the best candidates. Someone with the talent required to run a country can easily earn significantly more working in the private sector without the hassle and scrutiny of being an elected representative. Now, the best way around this is to increase the wages but reduce the numbers. Cardiff Bay wants to just increase the numbers, so there will be even more incompetent people getting involved. We'll just end up with loads more Drakefords. The other major problem Wales has is that people keep voting the same parties into power. Labour have failed on every level since 1999, often aided and abetted by Plaid. Labour have continued to be voted in, and now face being replaced by Plaid. I'm no lover of Reform, but at the very least they represent a disruption to the Status Quo. If political parties are secure in power, they have no incentive to deliver for anyone other than themselves. [Post edited 23 Oct 19:42]

I agree with you on pay, but if you’re suggesting that more money will attract capable candidates that that means that we do have the talent to run the Senedd? Better pay and the move to PR could be the answer 🤷🏻

The talent is there but it won't want to get involved. Better pay will help, but PR will just increase the volume of political placeholders. Wales could survive and thrive if it was business friendly. Wealth friendly. Low tax, low regulation. Just come here, set your business up and make yourself rich. But that's unlikely to ever happen.
