| Regis le Bris 13:30 - Oct 28 with 1834 views | SaintNick | Seems to have a very similar managerial CV to Will Still, in fact even less impressive, so how come he is working out at Sunderland. <Maybe it emphasises that it is not about getting in an experienced man all the time, but getting the right man | |

I don't actually think Still is a bad manager I just think he's got an impossible job. The main issues we have are an ownership who think they're cleverer than they are, a recruitment team who are f*cking sh*t at their job, players who have ideas above their station, and a lack of a striker or decent keeper. I f*cking despise these owners, they're proper games workshop nonces and have built possibly the sh*ttest multi club model in existence. Plus they're so f*cking arrogant, i don't think there's a single fan who can't see our problems but instead of spending money on the two positions they need to spend money on they buy a sh*tload of "potential" players who don't make it and we can't shift.

They were very lucky to beat Coventry in the semi-finals and lucky again to beat Sheffield United in the final. They looked a really poor side, and I thought they were a good bet to get less points than we did last season. Funny old game.

That's the way I see it too, WS may not be the greatest but he's not the main cause of our problems. If some of the players had just done the basics of their job (e.g. beat the keeper when through one on one, or make contact with the ball when you try to kick it) then he wouldn't be in the firing line. But it is what it is and it will be really tough for him to turn it around from here. As for Le Bris, he's just one of many who've been appointed with less impressive CVs than WS. He was appointed to Sunderland after he got Lorient relegated from Ligue 1. That's the same Ligue 1 that WS built his successful reputation in. I've no doubt that if Le Bris was working with our squad full of over rated losers, then he would be struggling just the same.

| Regis le Bris on 14:41 - Oct 28 with 1119 views | felly1 | Its very simple . We have terrible owners....time and time again they change the manager, bring in new players, new sporting directors and they fail because the board and owners are clueless clowns. Sunderland have better players and owners which quite simply means any manager their has a fair crack of the whip. | | | |
| Regis le Bris on 15:09 - Oct 28 with 1065 views | saintwizzler | Perhaps the Sunderland manager doesn’t keep babbling on about xG and low block. They had f all to lose against Chelsea and went for it. Winning late on 2-1. Will Still takes off our best player when winning 1-0 and goes 6 at the back against a piss poor Blackburn side. The rest, is history. | |

It's probably just a remnant of older supporters that talk about football these days without mentioning things like low blocks and xG. If today's coaches did that it would be like a politician today only using a megaphone and a soapbox while ignoring social media. Things move on, get over it.
| Regis le Bris on 15:38 - Oct 28 with 998 views | DorsetIan | Regis le Bris is 49 and played nearly 200 games professionally, albeit not at a particularly high level. There may be similarities in managerial careers, but the age difference will help him have authority with the players. | |

Do you talk about low blocks and xG's, sir? Not too sure you'll get much of that gibberish on here....

If a team plays a low block, I call it a low block. What do you call it sir? There was a time when Tony Bloom and Matthew Benham were ahead of the game in using analytics. They were the pioneers and Brighton and Brentford profited from it. Nowadays the terminology is commonplace..... apart from amongst the old saddos.

The owners ofcourse are definitely at fault. They are dreadful, terrible owners, who make mistakes with seemingly every decision. We need to get them out, I despise them too and I agree they are f@cking sh!t at their job and destroying our club,.year by year. But IMO, Will Still is part of the problem. In theory, anyone could win games with great players, great owners and a great setup. Regis Le Bris is 49 years old, so has lots of experience, with owners who have got him some really good players for big money who played in top leagues. He's lucky, he has such great players. But if you have poor players, bad leadership and a massive rebuilding job, you need someone like Dyche, a leader, man with experience, to tell these owners "F@ck off, we arn't buying Downes from the German 2nd division, I want Sargent or Mcburnie please. I know what I'm talking about, I've manged 10 teams successfully." Being able to say that holds such power and authority. Will Still can't say that, he doesn't have that experience, so SR continue with their ways. Regis Le Bris doesn't need to say it, he has great players at his disposal. So Sport Republic bring in a 32 year old, "likeable" guy instead, who goes along with all of their dreadful decisions. Ofcourse they did, he's a puppet, learning, potential, can't argue otherwise with proof. Appointing managers way out if their depth is what they do so yes ultimately it's the owners. Still said we don't need strikers. He either truly believes that or he is too scared to tell his bossess they are f@cking idiots or he simply doesn't know? I sense that Will Still had little say in the signings, and just went along with it. Experienced successful managers wouldn't just go along with it. [Post edited 28 Oct 16:16]

Should we get over taking off best player for a 6th defender and blowing it? He f()cked up massively on Saturday.

No, I'd say it was a mistake too. But managers are allowed some mistakes. Mistakes are inevitable, just like they are for players and referees. We have to look at the big picture, including the fact that if the players had done their jobs to a basic standard then we'd have won the game already by then. It would only have been Blackburn that were getting booed. I'd also bear in mind that WS was told that Scienza shouldn't play 90 mins, so subbing him is understandable, unless you think that a manager should ignore all advice.

That wasn’t just a mistake that was madness bringing on Stephen to just invite pressure, it’s happened all season with terrible subs. He’s a doughnut

But he didn't do it just to invite pressure. He moved Azaz further forward where Scienza had been. If Azaz had played well then there wouldn't have been any difference in attacking threat. Ultimately the players didn't do the jobs they were there to do. They're supposed to be better than Blackburn's players but they didn't look it.

Exactly. Wasn't this at 1 nil up? He brought on Stephens, a centre back to play in midfield to replace the best player on the field, presumably to hold on to the one nil, against a team that hasn't won at home for 6 months. He could have used Matsuki, Aribo, and plenty of other choices, but he would rather play players out of position. imagine being Matsuki right now knowing his managers prefer to play players out of position than them. How sh!t must they feel after having a cracking debut. Alternatively, just leave your best player in the pitch. [Post edited 28 Oct 16:53]

I'd call it "keeping it tight at the back and letting the other side have most of the ball". But I appreciate I am probably a dinosaur, or old saddo, as you put it so eloquently.

How do you know that? Presumably you have some better evidence than saying that you read it on social media right? It's funny how WS is supposedly weak and just does what Sport Republic tell him, yet he's strong enough to ignore everything that Trollope and Lallana tell him - and they just weakly accept that.
