To win or not to win, Rotherham cup game. 09:08 - Jan 4 with 43450 viewscyprusmel

That is the question, should we try to win and risk a backlog of fixtures and a possible derailment of our promotion campaign or play a weakened side and exit to concentrate on the remaining league fixtures.

You have to manage the squad sensibly, but you have to aim to win the game. Mark Warburton frequently talks about having a winning attitude ingrained within the club.

Winning builds confidence, builds momentum, can earn cash. A defeat, especially to a lower ranked opponent, can knock confidence and can impact the morale of players we're going to be relying on over the next month with AFCON.

I know Warnock's team managed well with being successful whilst bowing out of cups early, but how often does that really happen?

I think you play a strongish team without chucking the tie, but also giving some players a rest

Masterson played, and scored actually, in an earlier round at Northampton so you cannae have him.

That's not far off the first team. I'd want to give Albert a break, so would be happy with Kakay down the right. Potentially give George Thomas or Duke McKenna a starting role as well in midfield and go one up top.

We don't want to lose 3 games on the trot at home, so a win is important. Be good to progress, just have to balance the potential fixture backlog. Anyway we are starting to get our match fitness back after the Covid game lay offs, so a reasonably strong team should be fielded.

Having watched the U23s play so badly yesterday I would expect Duke-McKenna and Kelman to be involved on Saturday as both were subbed very early. Also Joe Gubbins and Sinclair Armstrong were at the game but stood with us watching so hopefully both of these will be in the squad.

Archer
Barbet
Dunne
Dickie
Hamalaimen
Odubajo (if fit)
Ball
Duke-McKenna
Amos
Dykes
Armstrong

This is going to be my first game back at HQ since November so I'm hoping for a win.

Rotherham are top of league 1 and might not fancy a cup run?

Either way, will interesting to see who we put out and how they do.

I believe that MW will want to win the match but will not take chances with any first team regulars if he thinks there are any issues whatsoever.

GK - ARCHER

BACK 3 - No change, DICKIE, DUNNE, BARBET

WING BACKS - Difficult but Wallace and Albert will not play. NIKO & MOSES (If fit)

MIDFIELD (3) - FIELD (Apparently, needs games to improve), WILLOCK, BALL, DOZZELL or THOMAS

FORWARDS (2) - DYKES (Apparently, needs match fitness), CA or GRAY (depending on fitness)

Which one of the four midfielders would you leave out of your three?

The first rule of football management is that you can only play eleven on the pitch at any time (apparently needs to improve?).

Can we please avoid the need for extra time.

Agree with you on the defence. Based on previous Rotherham fixtures, there could well be an aerial assault on our goal to withstand so having numerous tall players in the team is a must.

I don't think Armstrong will be involved but would expect to see Kellman, Bettache, Ball and Thomas all feature.

The bad news for us foreigners is that there is no official stream of tomorrow's game, not even in the Dark Markets (ominous music needed here).

As for team selection, it really is hard to know. I'm inclined to agree with those who say that Warburton will field a strong team, maybe resting one or two players but also putting more minutes into recovering players like Amos and Field. As ever with Warburton, you'd suspect that the Sports Scientists will have a huge input.

Either way, we'll have audio commentary where Sints will tell us that this is HOOJ game while breathing in through his teeth.

There are 5 midfielders in my team selection actually, I thought the 'or' gave it away. I also forgot a 6th, that being Amos.

Try to win the game of course , there will be players fighting to get in to the first team so it is a nonsense that any player in the side will not try to contribute to a win .
Millers have sold 681 tickets as of this morning so a fair effort from them .

MW

"“For me we will take it seriously, we will look at player availability, the needs of the players and take it from there.

“I have 18 players, with 9 substitutes so I will look at what the options are, I can use up to five substitutes tomorrow which makes it a little bit easier in terms of rotation, but we are very light that’s for sure."

I don’t think there is too much red button stuff about for the FA cup matches.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?
