“Offender” chant 10:18 - Jan 31 with 15639 views | paulhoop2 | Has anyone else seen the awful abuse at Wycombe of akinfenwa ? I it is the same song sung towards Charlie Austin every week. EFL and FA now looking at letting sides walk off. Don’t understand some of the things people sing thankfully not heard any rangers singing the same at away games yet.

“Offender” chant on 07:38 - Aug 16 by slmrstid | I don't want to call people thick, but the people posting on the club's own official Facebook page in their full names proudly announcing they will sing it can pretty justifiably be called thick. |
The reactions to that post is wild. Imagine if we mustered that kind of passion against £40 tickets, the cost of rail travel, 1245 kick offs, and shite owners instead. I recognise a lot of those faces too. There are big fans there that would be gutted to be banned. What a world.

“Offender” chant on 04:20 - Aug 16 by Westy75 | While we’re on the subject, it would be nice for our club to do something about the “West London is wonderful” chant. Sung every week at Rangers, seemingly started by the same bloke in Q block with a bit of an obsession it seems, and pretty offensive, particularly given the mixed gender makeup of our fan base. |
Too true, I've said it before on here. How anyone can sing in a sexualised fashion about female body parts when there are quite a few young girls around them is completely beyond me. It's almost like they are saying "this is still a grown up man's domain like the 80s, and it will forever remain so". I've been next to people singing it...with their daughter alongside. I just don't get it. It needs to be self-policed, it's a good tune otherwise so just change the two words. That's not woke, it's common decency, surely?
“Offender” chant on 08:50 - Aug 16 with 2006 views | Pindarus | The anti Man Utd chants about Munich have been around for some years, but I don't remember them until the 90s. Abuse, especially personal racist or sexual , is totally unacceptable. In these days of "family friendly" football it needs to be stamped on very thoroughly by clubs and the law. It is easily recorded by CCTV and offenders can be identified. and banned. There will always be morons, but it doesn't mean we have to put up with them.

Great post. Standing or sitting there with my wife whilst all around us are singing that crap would make me want to curl up into a ball. Brainless. I have to say that although I think we have a fantastic support, we have some of the most unimaginative chants going.

Reading an article about Linfield fans who constantly sing sectarian songs . A club on a shoestring budget who are regularly paying fines in particular to UEFA . Imagine having fans who literally take money out of the clubs coffers and effect the clubs future prospects. Mind blowing.

I liked the song (the tune, talking about west London and rangers) but my girlfriend always cringes when it’s sung. I used to think the song was funny but you hear other peoples opinions and how it makes them feel. You change the two words, it’s still a good song and you make others feel more comfortable and involved. The problem is there are people who have a mindset of F everyone else I’ll do what I want and resist the change to spite others. A sad way to be and hard to combat. What we’d need is organisation for chants like the ultras and fan groups around Europe. Spread the awareness and have a large enough group of people to drown out the old version of songs when people sing it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Other than 'West London is wonderful...' which I have heard so many times, I don't know the words. Could I be enlightened - with some tastefully applied asterisks, as necessary? Or, is it too awful even for that?

“Offender” chant on 23:38 - Aug 15 by numptydumpty | Well i guess a lot of chants arent exactly complimentary regards opposition I got to say the "glad all over chant" that Palace fans chant is one of the best for me. Its very upbeat and a great chant for a celebration. Wish that was a Rangers chant. Always found the celery chant despite who it was sung by as kinda funny but today would be deemed misogynistic. Big word but yes everyone is offended by everything these days. I did find it incredibly weird when i first went regularly to Rangers in early 80s and as you enter the stands, there were signs saying anyone shouting anything abusive or what could be considered was swearing, was liable to be ejected from the ground. They would probably only have had about twenty people left in there, if they had enforced that one !!! Anything thats just total homophobic, derogatory towards minorities or arrogant blatant sexism, its not needed or clever and if culprits faced consequences then it would help keep things in check. I guess our version of ‘Hi Ho Silver Lining’ is the equivalent to Palace’s ‘Glad All Over’, talking of which, I do occasionally wonder how that chant migrated south of the river. The Dave Clark Five were out of north London and their music was known as ‘The Tottenham Sound’. Due diligence clearly not a priority back in the 60’s. Agree with all the comments about the utterly depressing sexist, racist, homophobic chanting, it goes without saying, a major reason I have hesitated to introduce my friend’s teenage daughter to live football. ITV had a great piece about dinosaur attitudes to women’s football during the Euros recently (the late journalist Brian Glanville a particular culprit) but that’s probably a discussion for elsewhere.

Well, in a way, that is the 'freedom of speech ' argument in a nutshell - we all have boundaries, just not the same ones. So, who gets to choose? Now, obviously, a football ground isn't a public space, so the club get to choose, in this case

“Offender” chant on 17:16 - Aug 16 with 675 views | kensalriser | Mostly when you hear people prattling on about free speech what they actually mean is they want freedom of speech for themselves to express extreme bigotry and hatred towards groups of people they don't like. It's nothing to do with actual free speech which is the right to express political criticism without being terrorised by the state. And that's not going too well lately.
