FIFA World Cup thread. 12:02 - Nov 15 with 157889 viewsSnipper

I’m trying to get excited about this World Cup, but to no avail :-((.

I’ve just watched Sky Sports World Cup preview with Gary Neville, Jamie Redknapp, Jamie Carragher & Karen Carney. Utterly depressing viewing. Same old, same old. Picking players for the starting XI not playing for their clubs, or totally off form.

I’m hoping this thread can get the juices flowing.

Do any of you think England have a chance?

I’m not. No Grealish, no Foden.

But you have Saka and Sterling, bit fo a flip of a coin with those attacking players. Would love to see Foden playing but sure he'll get in soon.

Was pretty much what I expected from the team. Has to start Maguire and get him in form rathere than bring him in later, same with Sterling.

Well forgive my anti-Ch*l** bias but no way should Mount be England’s starting no.10, ever.

On current form does Sterling really warrant a start?

Picking players on reputation is a recipe for failure.

Hope they both prove me wrong.

This Iran team are no mugs.

Sterling was always going to play. Tends to do it for England regardless of club form. Mount… I just don’t see it.

How was that not a penalty when Maguire gets dragged down at a corner?

100%.

Fair play to their keeper for playing on. That was a sickening collision.

Because it’s in the first couple of minutes and apparently doesn’t count…….

Very unusual start. Will have been a challenge for both teams to stay warmed up and clear of soft tissue injuries.

If QPR were losing 1-0 that would be 3 minutes added on.

In Saka and Bellingham, England's future shines very bright. Well, our present isn't bad either by the looks of it.

While we're talking about armbands etc, the Iranians collectively refusing to sing their national anthem is apparently a bit of a huge, life-risking deal.
